Principal’s Message

Dear Holy Rosary Families,

What a year this has been! My heart is filled with joy when I think back on all of the incredible experiences and opportunities this past year. It has been my great honor to be a part of this wonderful community, both as a parent and as your principal this year, and I am excited for things to come! It is through each and every one of your incredible families that we are able to grow and sustain our amazing community. Thank you for everything this year!

Before we know it, we’ll be back at it in the fall. I hope this summer brings your family fun, relaxation, and time with friends and loved ones.

In Christ,

Anna

IMPORTANT CONVERSATIONS FOR FAMILIES – Summertime is a good time to think about having important conversations with children regarding drug and alcohol exposure and refusal skills. Research shows that students are more at risk to engage in substance use during “risk periods” such as major life transitions, like graduating from middle school or heading off to college. Research shows that strengthening a child’s “protective factors” can help them deal with the social and emotional challenges of transition without resorting to drugs or alcohol. Protective factors that you can build or bolster include:

  • having a strong parent-child bond based on being a parent, not a “pal”
  • creating opportunities where your teen can apply his or her natural gifts
  • helping your child achieve academic competence
  • clearly stating your expectations about behavior, and consistently enforcing consequences.

We encourage you to take a look at a few important resources that might support you in having family conversations on these important topics.

Pastor’s Message

I would first like to take a moment to thank our new principal, Ms. Anna Horton, for a wonderful first year! We are blessed to have her, and I look forward to the many to come.

“In the beginning.” This was the theme she gave us for the year. As we find ourselves at the end of the year, it is good to look back to the beginning. Much has taken place since then, and it is important that we pause for a moment and give thanks to God for all of the blessings. On Tuesday of this week, our kindergartners graduated. On Wednesday, I visited the incoming Kindergartners as their parents and other new parents attended orientation in the Hall. What a difference! As we graduated our eighth graders last week, it is wonderful to see how they have grown and matured even since my arrival, becoming good citizens of this world and good citizens of the Kingdom to come. Our work and mission here at Holy Rosary is very important, and I thank all of you for not only being a part of it by sending your children here, but by truly becoming a part of the community yourselves and the incredible number of ways that so many of you give of yourselves so generously. By all reports, we had a very successful accreditation visit – and that is only possible because of a dedicated faculty, staff and family community. We have much for which to be grateful to God.

Now we find ourselves at a new beginning as we prepare for summer break. Growing up my family always did some traveling during the summer. Should you find yourself away, be sure and visit www.masstimes.org to find the local Masses so that you can continue the practice of your faith – something we never take a break from – as we see the beauty of the Catholic Church, which is truly universal.

I hope you have a blessed summer. I will see you at Sunday Mass!

Jesus Christ, yesterday and today; the same forever. Hebrews 13:8

Great job Holy Rosary! Over $3,000 was raised this year for our Ugandan students! It pays for their tuition, books, clothing, and other necessities.

Parents Club – Volunteer Opportunities 2017/2018

VICE PRESIDENT – Before you know it, September will be upon us bringing new teachers, new friends, and a fresh start to a new year of memories. Have you considered being a part of the Parents Club leadership team? Get to know new families, learn more about the inner workings of the school and lend your talent to our incredible school by representing our parent community. We would love to have you join Parents Club as next year’s Vice President. Click here for a full position description.

Still need more convincing? Volunteer hours…that’s right; Parents Club leadership positions fulfill the entire 50-hour requirement by being a leader in our community.

HOSPITALITY TEAM – Join the Parents Club hospitality team. Grab a friend since it works best as a two person job. Duties include the first day of school coffee/doughnuts social and five Parents Club meetings throughout the year. Each totals about four hrs (one hour shopping and three hours set up/meeting/clean up) and basically covers general volunteer hours for the year.

For more information on either position, please contact Joellyn DeRonghe (joellyn17@hotmail.com) or Dino Annest (dinoannest@hotmail.com) with questions.

Development Directives

ANNUAL FUND – Your donation must be made by June 30 to count for the 2016/17 school year. If you made a pledge at the beginning of the school year, and you are not making payments, please fulfill that pledge NOW. If you have NOT had an opportunity to make an annual fund donation, I urge you to help us reach 100% participation in the ANNUAL FUND. No amount is too small; may I suggest a $20 donation? Currently we are at 75%, granting committees like to see over 90%, and I know we can do better! Click here to make a donation.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES – Thank you to those parents who have stepped up to take on chair roles for next year’s fundraisers. We couldn’t do it without you!

ICE CREAM FUNDRAISER AT HUSKY DELI – Get your ice cream and raise $$$ for Holy Rosary! The weather is finally warming up, which means it’s a great time for ice cream! Stop by Husky Deli to try out their new seasonal flavor, Caramel Apple ice cream. This flavor was invented by the Pedersen and Guthrie families in honor of their family’s apple orchard in Chelan, Washington. From now through the end of the school year, any sales of Carmel Apple will be matched by the Sweeney Orchard to make a donation to the Annual Fund. Enjoy!

Thank you to each and every one of you for all your support in our fundraising efforts this year. This community is beyond generous and we are all very lucky! HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!

Summer Math Challenge

Summer is all about fun and relaxation. It is a time to spend time with family and friends and recharge between school years. We hope that you can find some time for math this summer, too! Please click here for .pdf of more details.
