Principal’s Message

Dear Holy Rosary families,

Tonight we will be graduating our amazing group of eighth grade students. What an honor it has been to see them grow this year! Please join me in congratulating them, and thanking their families for all they have done to support these tremendous eighth grade students! We started this week with this prayer, which I thought I would share with you as we end this second to last week:

Lord Jesus, you have said that your followers must be the light to the world.
Light propagates itself, dispels darkness.
It sows rays of joy and hope. It is lifegiving.
Help us Lord, to be a light to this world, so that our lives may radiate your message of love, hope, and joy.
Help us all to be the beacon leading others to You.
And help us to send our 8th grade students off to shine their brightness upon the world.
We ask this through Christ our Lord, amen.

Have a wonderful rest of the week!

Reminder From The Office

Welcome New Incoming Families

We have several new families joining our school in various grades from kindergarten through grade 8. Become an Ambassador Family for the school and share your Holy Rosary knowledge with a new family! This begins in June with an introduction, and counts towards next year’s volunteer hours. Meeting up for ice cream or hosting a playdate during the summer will count towards general volunteer hours. Start early! More details and sign-up information can be found here.

Genius Hour Project

During the second and third trimesters of LibTech, each eighth grade student completed a Genius Hour project. According to authors Krebs and Zvi in The Genius Hour Guidebook “Genius Hour gives students time to find and follow their passions. It gives them the autonomy to work on their own pet projects. Students take charge of their learning and have complete autonomy, giving them purpose to learn and time to move toward mastery. It is passion-based and inquiry-based learning in one”. Last week the students presented their projects. This list of topics demonstrates the wide variety of their interests.

Room Parent Recruitment

Be a room parent for the 2017-2018 school year! New for next year – the auction project will no longer be a room parent duty!! If you enjoy planning and attending classroom parties, parent’s nights out, and spoiling the teachers with birthday gifts, then this job is for you! Room parents fill such an important role in each class and help take a little weight off of our teacher’s shoulders. This time spent also goes toward your family commitment hours. If you are interested in being a room parent during the 2017-2018 school year, please email me at Thank you!

Parents Club – Volunteer Opportunities 2017/2018

VICE PRESIDENT – Before you know it, September will be upon us bringing new teachers, new friends, and a fresh start to a new year of memories. Have you considered being a part of the Parents Club leadership team? Get to know new families, learn more about the inner workings of the school and lend your talent to our incredible school by representing our parent community. We would love to have you join Parents Club as next year’s Vice President. Click here for a full position description.

Still need more convincing? Volunteer hours…that’s right; Parents Club leadership positions fulfill the entire 50-hour requirement by being a leader in our community.

HOSPITALITY TEAM – Join the Parents Club hospitality team. Grab a friend since it works best as a two person job. Duties include the first day of school coffee/doughnuts social and five Parents Club meetings throughout the year. Each totals about four hrs (one hour shopping and three hours set up/meeting/clean up) and basically covers general volunteer hours for the year.

For more information on either position, please contact Joellyn DeRonghe ( or Dino Annest ( with questions.

Development Directives

ANNUAL FUND – If you made a pledge at the beginning of the school year, and you are not making payments, please fulfill that pledge NOW. If you have NOT had an opportunity to make an annual fund donation, I urge you to help us reach 100% participation in the ANNUAL FUND. No amount is too small; may I suggest a $20 donation? When applying for grants, a higher percentage of family participation informs the granting committee that we have exhausted our internal resources and increases our chances of obtaining additional funds from outside sources. Speaking of grants, we will be applying for grants to help fund Project Lead the Way STEM kits, Makers Lab, Tiny House wood shop class project. The grantors we are contacting are particularly interested in the participation statistic, so please help us secure 10k in grants to make the above wishes into reality. Currently we are at 72%, granting committees like to see over 90%, and I know we can do better! Click here to make a donation.

ICE CREAM FUNDRAISER AT HUSKY DELI – The weather is finally warming up, which means it’s a great time for ice cream! Stop by Husky Deli to try out their new seasonal flavor, Caramel Apple ice cream. This flavor was invented by the Pedersen and Guthrie families in honor of their family’s apple orchard in Chelan, Washington. From now through the end of the school year, any sales of Carmel Apple will be matched by the Sweeney Orchard to make a donation to the Annual Fund. Enjoy!

STORAGE NEEDED – The Tree Lot has a large sled in need of storage. If anyone has room in a storage unit or warehouse, please contact Beth Martin at or Pete Speltz at We’d hate to give this up, as it is a nice backdrop at the Tree Lot.

1% Receipt Rebate Program with ‪Thriftway

We are getting so close to the end of this school year. If you have any Thriftway receipts lying around, please bring them to the school office ASAP. We can get 1% back from all the Thriftway receipts. Don’t let them go wasted. If you have any questions, please contact Irene Merz at Thank you for all your continued support.
