Principal’s Message

Dear Holy Rosary families,

A week from today, we’ll be graduating our amazing eighth grade class. How can that be? We celebrated a lovely baccalaureate mass this past Saturday night with these students, followed by a celebration dinner. The eighth grade class is a tremendous group of students. They consistently model exceptional behavior, strong Catholic values, scholarship, and demonstrate care for one another. It has been our pleasure to watch them grow this year, and we send them off to do amazing things on the next step of their journey.

On a different note, last week I took a group of fifth grade students to visit Lowell Elementary School, to deliver the items collected as part of their Lenten service projects. We had a wonderful time touring the school and getting to know their students. Lowell serves a number of students with diverse needs- it was an amazing place full of love and joy. One of our students asked one of their students if there was anything else we could do to help, and the student said they don’t have many books at home to practice their reading over the summer. Inspired, our 5th graders came back and asked if they could hold a book drive to benefit the students at Lowell, so each student could take home a book over the summer. I’m so proud of their inspiration and desire to help. So we’ll be hosting a small book drive beginning Thursday (the day you receive this eFC) running through Friday, June 2nd. We’ll place a couple of boxes in the front hallway. If you have any new, or gently used books you’d like to donate, I know the students at Lowell would be so grateful. We’ll also be going into the “buy one, get one free” event at the book fair as well, if anyone would like to donate his or her free book to the students at Lowell. Thank you for raising such loving, caring students who see their role in helping others in need.

Finally, as we go into summer, and with growing access to social media, I wanted to share a short article I came across. While it is from a blog, so a lot of it is opinion, it raised some points that made me think a bit about social media access for tweens and teens. I thought it might be useful if this is something you’re considering or monitoring in your homes. Click here to visit link.

Have a wonderful rest of the week!

Urgent Volunteer Needs

We are still looking for a chair (or two) for the fall magazine drive and for someone to be the point person (mostly volunteer coordination) for the summer parade. Both would be great ways to get your volunteer hours done before school starts (or shortly thereafter). The magazine drive is our second largest fundraiser and helps us raise nearly $60,000 towards our operating budget. If you are able to help with either, we would be eternally grateful. Please contact Beth Martin ( or Anna Horton ( Thank you!

Room Parent Recruitment

Be a room parent for the 2017-2018 school year! New for next year – the auction project will no longer be a room parent duty!! If you enjoy planning and attending classroom parties, parent’s nights out, and spoiling the teachers with birthday gifts, then this job is for you! Room parents fill such an important role in each class and help take a little weight off of our teacher’s shoulders. This time spent also goes toward your family commitment hours. If you are interested in being a room parent during the 2017-2018 school year, please email me at Thank you!

Welcome New Incoming Families

We have several new families joining our school in various grades from kindergarten through grade 8. Become an Ambassador Family for the school and share your Holy Rosary knowledge with a new family! This begins in June with an introduction, and counts towards next year’s volunteer hours. Meeting up for ice cream or hosting a playdate during the summer will count towards general volunteer hours. Start early! More details and sign-up information can be found here.

Development Directives

ANNUAL FUND – If you made a pledge at the beginning of the school year, and you are not making payments, please fulfill that pledge NOW. If you have NOT had an opportunity to make an annual fund donation, I urge you to help us reach 100% participation in the ANNUAL FUND. No amount is too small; may I suggest a $20 donation? When applying for grants, a higher percentage of family participation informs the granting committee that we have exhausted our internal resources and increases our chances of obtaining additional funds from outside sources. Speaking of grants, we will be applying for grants to help fund Project Lead the Way STEM kits, Makers Lab, Tiny House wood shop class project. The grantors we are contacting are particularly interested in the participation statistic, so please help us secure 10k in grants to make the above wishes into reality. Currently we are at 72%, granting committees like to see over 90%, and I know we can do better! Click here to make a donation.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES – Tired of figuring out how you will get those hours in? We have one chair position available:

  • MAGAZINE CO-CHAIRS – This fundraiser nets HRS 60k annually! You will fulfill all your hours in the fall and not have to worry about it the rest of the year. Our past co-chairs are happy to meet and walk you through the steps this spring. Beth is meeting with the magazine company in May, so please reach out to her if interested. This is a great job for two friends; we are looking for a two-year commitment.

The above position is crucial to our second largest fundraising event. We NEED people to step-up and fill these positions. Thank you!

ICE CREAM FUNDRAISER AT HUSKY DELI – The weather is finally warming up, which means it’s a great time for ice cream! Stop by Husky Deli to try out their new seasonal flavor, Caramel Apple ice cream. This flavor was invented by the Pedersen and Guthrie families in honor of their family’s apple orchard in Chelan, Washington. From now through the end of the school year, any sales of Carmel Apple will be matched by the Sweeney Orchard to make a donation to the Annual Fund. Enjoy!

1% Receipt Rebate Program with ‪Thriftway

We are getting so close to the end of this school year. If you have any Thriftway receipts lying around, please bring them to the school office ASAP.
