Principal’s Newsletter

A big thanks goes out to the staff of Holy Rosary School. They financed, organized and worked the annual Bingo Party for the students as part of our Auction. The proceeds are included in the auction net numbers. This has been a very successful yearly event for the school. The official attendance for the 5-8 Blast was 112 students (last year we had 75.) There wasn’t another school’s junior high dance this year which may have affected last year’s numbers, but the big attendance came from the 5th and 6th grade, so thank you to all who encouraged them to come! It seems like this year’s Bash actually had close to 200 students. Awesome! We should all extend a deep appreciation to the entire staff who helped with time, talent and treasure. Each staff member made a $20 donation and gave up their Friday night for this event. Early indications are that our fundraiser raised $8,385 for the school! Amazing!

GB_Logo-300x253The Seattle Foundation’s GiveBIG is a one-day, online charitable giving event to inspire people to give generously to nonprofit organizations who make our region a stronger, more vibrant community for all. This year’s GiveBIG will take place on May 5, 2015 and it’s going to be a true “Day of Champions.”

GiveBIG is designed to raise money for the more than 1,600 nonprofit organizations, including Holy Rosary School, that are profiled on the Seattle Foundation website. The Seattle Foundation will use contributions from GiveBIG sponsors to match a percentage of the individual contributions made through its website.

Holy Rosary will use funds raised on May 5th to support this year’s Annual Fund. We need approximately $20,000 to meet our Annual Fund goal for the year. If you have already contributed to the AF, please consider adding to your donation on May 5th so we may be able to leverage matching funds that may be available to us through GiveBig.

DAUGHTERS OF THE KING CATHOLIC PRINCESS RETREAT – This retreat is for mothers (or aunts, grandmothers, or Godmothers) and daughters (aged 5-13). The retreat is designed to instill in girls a sense of their dignity as daughters of the King, and to remind women of their beauty and honor as heirs to the Kingdom of God. The retreat will teach the girls that every person is made in the image and likeness of God, with a unique personal beauty. The role of a princess in God’s kingdom is:

  • To be loved by the King and to love in return
  • To reflect the beauty of the Kingdom, which is grace
  • To share in the mission of the Kingdom, which is to build up souls
  • To intercede for the needs of the Kingdom with the Communion of Saints, and Mary, the Queen of Heaven

The weekend will include presentations for both the children and adults, a May Day Marian crowning, a ladies’ tea with live harp music, a coronation ceremony, as well as celebration of the Mass. I plan on attending this retreat with my daughter. It is a tremendous opportunity to spend quality time with my daughter. The retreat is culminating with Mass presided by Father John. For more information, click here

Pecado Bueno West Seattle needs you, and maybe a friend for part-time work. You will start at 10:45am and be done around 12:30pm, five days a week, excluding holidays. The person or persons (might be better for two people to take this on together so you can maintain your very flexible schedule needs) will help package a lunch delivery (no handling of direct food items) then deliver it to a one or two block area of downtown, no need to wait for payments just drop and go, and then you are done for the day. Drivers need insured car (large hatchback, wagon, minivan or SUV) and a smart phone. We will pay you $50 each day, approximately $12,350 per year. These deliveries are set up a week in advance so you and your partner can schedule your days in advance. Please e-mail if interested, this is a year-round commitment. Another reason to do this with a partner is to have the possibility of time off during the summer breaks and for family needs.
