THE GRANDPARENTS AND SPECIAL FRIENDS DAY was a huge success. We hosted over 270 people and the energy and excitement through out the school was palpable. LENTEN BROWN BAG FRIDAYS FOR ST. MARTIN de PORRES SHELTER began Friday, Feb. 19th. Each Lent, Holy Rosary students provide brown bag lunches to the men at St. Martin de Porres shelter. Students are asked to bring a lunch or two and a personal item on designated Fridays during Lent. These lunches can be kept cold, so perishable food is fine. Please keep the personal items separate from the lunches.
- Feb. 26 – men’s socks
- March 4 – disposable razors/shaving cream (sample size)
- March 11– travel size toothpaste and disposable toothbrush (singles)
We are looking for drivers to take a few students to deliver the lunches on collection Fridays during Lent. If you are able to help out, please contact Jennifer Hazzard in the school office. Thank you!

FACTS TUITION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM – Family profiles have been finalized within FACTS by Holy Rosary School. Families should be receiving verification of 2016-17 tuition payment schedules from FACTS. The FACTS fee will be processed within 14 days. Families will be receiving notification from FACTS for paying Registration Fees within the next couple of days. Holy Rosary Drama Department Presents Snow White
Mark your calendars! At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2nd and Thursday, March 3rd, the Holy Rosary Drama Department will be debuting its performance of Snow White! This delightfully magical fairy tale will feature an all-star cast of top-notch 7th and 8th grade actors. Additionally, our entire student body has worked in collaboration to design a beautifully intricate and fanciful set! Come feast your eyes and indulge your imagination in an evening filled with fun, humor and whimsical entertainment!

SEEKING NEW COMMISSION MEMBERS – The School Commission is seeking new members for the upcoming 2016-17 school year. School Commission members advise the principal and pastor on policy-related issues that affect our school; you are the voice of Holy Rosary parents. The upcoming year is exciting as we welcome a new principal to the school community.
We are looking for parents with education, accounting, facilities, technology and marketing skills that will expand the commission’s overall capability. Examples of ongoing projects include school budget, enrollment, Catholic identity, fundraising, technology, and the marketing of Holy Rosary School.
The School Commission meets the first Thursday of the month. Each member is typically assigned one to two subcommittees that meet throughout the school year. Commission members serve a four-year term and hours conducting School Commission business count towards commitment hours.

Father-Daughter Glow Bowl
Sign up for the annual Father*-Daughter Glow Bowl at West Seattle Bowl! The event takes place on Friday, March 11 from 5-8 p.m. Click here for a PDF of the registration form. Forms are also available in the office and will be distributed to the classrooms. **The deadline to turn in the completed forms has been extended**. Please return all completed forms with payment to the office no later than Friday, March 4th.

St. Patrick’s Day Dash Volunteer Opportunity
Volunteer hours needed? The St. Patrick’s Day Dash, a 32-year Seattle tradition, is looking for a few volunteers to work shifts at West Seattle Runner. Duties include registering runners and distributing bib number packets.
This is an approved HRS volunteer shift and will count toward general hours. A great parent/child volunteer opportunity since 7th and 8th graders are welcome to volunteer with a parent. Shifts are in two-hour blocks from March 5-10. The Detlef Schrempf Foundation, producer of the St. Patrick’s Day Dash, will donate $1,000 to HRS for covering these volunteer shifts at West Seattle Runner! TRACK AND FIELD 2016 – The following dates are for your convenience as you plan your spring and late May schedules. Signups on BONZI begin March 14th. Deadline is April 22nd.
FYI: Track and Field is for 4th-8th grade girls and boys. 3rd grade may practice but not run meets.
The first practice is Tuesday, April 5th. All practices will be held Tuesday and Thursdays from 5-6:15 p.m. at Hiawatha track. With a later start time we will avoid conflict with the high school track team. I hope to have all coaches return but can always use new help if you have a track/field background!
There are four meets plus an 8th grade pentathlon. The dates of meets are April 30, May 7th, May 14th, May 21st. (May 8th will be the 8th grade pentathlon.) All meets are required for participation. Times will be 10:30 or 2:30. (some exceptions may be made for kids doing multiple sports). Awards party at Lincoln Park 5/23 at 6 PM.
The last meet will be in the morning 10:30 a.m. if we are AAA, so we will need at least 50 participants to make that happen and allow the 8th grade to compete as it is their Baccalaureate Mass.

Congratulations to Holy Rosary’s Elect and Candidates! Zoey C., Tara C., Violet F., Charlotte F., Devon G., Sam K., Jack K., Edrian M., Louella P., Anna Malia S., were enrolled in the order of the Elect during the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion at St. James Cathedral February 11 and 18.
During the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion, parishes present the Catechumens and Candidates to the Bishop and the congregation at St. James Cathedral. Godparents and Sponsors are asked by the Bishop to affirm that those in preparation are sufficiently ready to continue their faith journeys, and the Catechumens and Candidates affirm their desire to fully enter into the life of the Church. The Catechumens’ sign their names into the Book of the Elect, signifying that the Catechumens are now members of the Order of the Elect. The Elect will become fully initiated Catholics, receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil Mass celebrated here at Holy Rosary on March 26 at 8:30pm. The Candidates will come into Full Communion of the Catholic Church during the Easter Season. SHOULDER TO SHOULDER – Holy Rosary’s Shoulder-to-Shoulder Ministry delivered 50 meals to our “Golden” Parishioners. On Saturday, January 23, Shoulder-to-Shoulder volunteers honored our Holy Rosary “Golden” Parishioners who are age 80+ with a delicious homemade meal along with a handmade card by our 8th grade students and letter from Fr. Oakland. Here are some fun stats from this event:
- 21 volunteers cooked
- 22 volunteers helped assemble the meals
- 42 volunteers delivered 50 meals
