Principal’s Newsletter

CHRISTMAS CARDS – One of the Holy Rosary traditions is to post family Christmas cards we receive on the outside of the door to the staff room. So please send us any family cards you have put together and please enjoy dropping by to see everyone’s family photo. It is a delightful little community builder. Feel free to either mail the cards or drop them off at the main office. “Tis the Season!”

ADVENT OUTREACH – Advent will be here in the blink of an eye. It is a very special time of the year. It is looked upon as a time of waiting and preparation. Admittedly in our culture the waiting and preparation seems to center on Christmas Break and Vacation, and Feasting. But it is a bit more than that —- especially in a Catholic School like Holy Rosary.

We are truly preparing for the rebirth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ —- into our lives. We here at Holy Rosary do that in many ways, but one special element is our “Outreach Program”. Through our “Outreach Day” we prepare to make life a little better, a little easier for those who have very little, and in some cases nothing. We want them to feel the care and concern others have for them in a real and tangible way.

During Advent each classroom selects three groups they want to help in three different ways. They bring in money to give to the cause of their choice. They bring in food to stock the West Seattle Food Bank we have right here at Holy Rosary. Finally, each class selects a specific needy cause and they bring in items for that cause. In the past Saint Vincent DePaul, Chief Seattle Shelter, Westside Baby, and Francis House have been among the outreach activities the school has supported.

All of the donations are brought to school on the final Thursday before Christmas Break. The students bring them over to the Church at a special prayer service in the morning, which the Pastor presides over. The offerings are all placed around the altar. After the prayers and blessings the eighth graders help deliver the food and all the items. They count the money and help with the deposits.

It is a way to ignite the spirit and the mind of our students in a way that stimulates them into action that helps those in need —- those who are less fortunate. It is at the heart of what Catholic education is all about.

Although we are very happy to receive checks supporting this from our parents and friends, it is very important to allow and encourage those children who do have some money of their own through allowances or gifts —–to give from that source. The more a child learns to give from what they have, the more meaningful the activity and the more likely it is that the spirit of giving is instilled.

INTENT TO REGISTER FORM – This year we are asking all of our current HRS families to complete an Intent to Register Form online for the 2016-17 school year. Your response will help us with our budget work and also capture new siblings applying to HRS next year. This form will only take a few minutes of your time. Please contact Kimberly Tish if you have any questions, thank you!

FACTS TUITION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM – Presently, over 40% of the Catholic Schools in this Archdiocese use FACTS as a collection system for tuition and fees. This systems allows parents to go online at any time to view their tuition payment plan, make payments for incidental invoices and update personal information. Starting in January, current HRS families will be asked to go online to FACTS and create their profile page and register their students for the 2016-17 school year. The cost for using FACTS Tuition Management System is based on whether you plan to pay tuition in full or make 12 monthly payments. For families choosing to pay in full, the yearly cost is $20 per family. If a family chooses the monthly plan, the yearly cost is $46 per family each year. If you feel that your family cannot afford the once a year fee for this service, and needs the school to help, please contact Mr. Hofbauer or Kimberly TishMore FACTS Information here.

Announcing A Golden Outreach Event

The Holy Rosary community is our home…we are family. When someone in our family is in need, we are there. Shoulder-to-Shoulder ministry is hosting our Parish’s first Golden Outreach on Saturday, January 23 for parishioners over 80 years old. On this day a meal will be personally delivered to a Golden Parishioner by a Holy Rosary volunteer, including a letter from Father Oakland reassuring the recipient that their parish family is always and only a phone call away. Our goal is for our seniors to know that they can rely on their parish family for help, conversation, and togetherness; no one is alone.

Nearly 150 parishioners over age 80 have been identified. An outreach event of this nature requires many volunteers to cook meals and prepare them for delivery. Our intention is to have enough volunteers to reach as many as 50 of our Golden Parishioners. Please join us. Here’s how you can help:

  • Thursday, January 21 6-9:00: Cook meals in School Hall kitchen
  • Friday, January 22 6-9:00: Complete & package meals for delivery
  • Saturday, January 23 10:00 -1:00: Deliver the meals to Golden Parishioners

If you are a parishioner who would like to help cook or deliver meals, please click here to sign up as a volunteer. If you know of a parishioner who would benefit from this outreach, please contact the organizers Nancy Tyler and Terry Williams at

Everyone has a gift, be it conversation, cooking, doing odd jobs or just being there in a time of need. Please share your gift.

Parking Reminder

Please be careful not to block the neighbors’  driveways when you park your car. We had a neighbor stop in the office to let us know a car was blocking her driveway. Thank you.

PARENTS OF SPECIAL NEEDS SUPPORT GROUP – Holy Rosary Parents with children who have special needs…you are not alone! Please join us for coffee on Thursday mornings, Parish Reception Room, 9:00-10:30 for discussion, support, friendship, and prayer! We understand your journey. For questions please email Jennifer Rowley at

PRAYER PARTNERS FOR THOSE RECEIVING SACRAMENTS – In our community, boys and girls, teenagers and adults are preparing to receive Sacraments, including Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, and Matrimony. The important symbol of Community is often overlooked while preparing for Sacraments of Initiation. As a Parish, one of the greatest ways we can support those who are receiving Sacraments is through our prayers.

YOU are invited to become a prayer partner, to hold in your prayers one of our parishioners who is preparing for a Sacrament. All that is required is to include an extra prayer for your prayer partner during personal prayer time or when you are quietly praying at Mass. If you would like to be a prayer partner, please contact Patrick or Jennifer at
