MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR! – Last week we had our annual Christmas show. It was a wonderful event. I noticed many of our graduates had returned. They will also come to the Christmas Eve Mass, along with many adults that you may not have seen for a while. They are returning because this is their community and they want to experience that sense of community especially during this sacred time of the year.
Jesus came to establish a community, and we all have a yearning to live within a community. “People who need people are the luckiest people in the world.” It is important to remember that and to celebrate it —– especially during this time of year.
Because of this community, Holy Rosary has come a long way in a relatively short period of time. You are all responsible for that. Thank you for the life you bring to the school. Thank you for your dedication and generosity. Thank you for the hours and expertise you invest in this institution.
We are all partners on a mission to building a better future for the young people we serve, and I think we are doing a pretty good job. Thank you for all you do and thank you for all you are about to do!
On behalf of the entire staff of Holy Rosary I wish you all a holy and happy Christmas and may the New Year bring you and those you love, health, peace, joy and prosperity in an adventurous New Year ——that lies right around the corner. I will see you in January!

TAX DEDUCTION TIME! – Please remember December is a great time to pay off pledges or just make donations. It can help with your tax position. And it can REALLY help the school. All of our new computers arrived —– along with a $40,000 bill for them! They will be given out to the students in grades 5, 6, and 7 in January. It is a very exciting time for us

SNOW DAY REMINDER – Holy Rosary School will follow the Seattle Public School system when it comes to announcing closure for snow. BASE will be closed on days that Holy Rosary School is closed. If the Seattle schools announce a late start, Holy Rosary School will start one hour later than it usually does. BASE will not open on late start days.
FINANCIAL INCENTIVE FOR FAMILIES – The School Commission decided that parents should be given one free registration fee for the 2017-2018 school year for every child they bring into the school as a newly enrolled student in grades K-8 for the 2016-2017 school year. The goal is to grow the HRS community via a registration coupon for next year (meaning February of 2018). This was decided at the December meeting of the School Commission. The newly enrolled child cannot be a member of the family offering the referral. The referred child’s family must pay a registration fee for themselves, full tuition and remain for the entire school year, meaning 2016-2017. But we will apply the benefit, to the referring parent, during registration time for next year —- which would be in January or February of 2017. The newly enrolled child must be from a family that is new to the school and that newly enrolled family must pick up a form from the registrar, fill it out and return it to the registrar by the end of March of 2016 where they state the name of the one family they are crediting with recruiting them for the school. Principal Search Update
As you are likely aware, our school Principal George Hofbauer is retiring at the end of the school year. We are now embarking on the journey to locate the individual who will shepherd and lead our exceptional school into the future.
Father Oakland has formed a Principal Search Committee to facilitate the process of soliciting applications, reviewing applicants and ultimately making recommendations to him for the final decision. The Committee has held its initial meeting and is preparing a job description that will be disseminated for publication in the coming weeks. Committee Members include: Father Oakland, Brett Conway, Mary Rose Blatner, Mike Hooks, Christy Tobin-Presser, Maria Tally and Gary Samanegio. Karen Tarabochia, Assistant Superintendent of School Operations and Personnel for the Archdiocese of Seattle will also be a valuable member. The Committee will continue to provide information regarding the search as it develops, as well as opportunities for providing input. Please pray for the Committee as it carries out its mission of helping to identify the individual that will best lead our school, and begin to pray for him or her as well.
Washington School Survey
As part of a new marketing plan approved by the Archbishop, the Office for Catholic Schools is conducting a survey of parents across western Washington. The purpose of the survey is to better understand a family’s decision-making process regarding the education of their children. This 10-minute survey asks parents to rate the importance of different school characteristics and then invites each parent to state whether they believe they would find that characteristic in public schools, Catholic schools, and/or non-Catholic private schools. The results of the survey will inform a forthcoming marketing campaign for Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Seattle. Thank you for taking the time to complete this brief survey.

AUCTION ITEM DONATION “HOW TO” – Follow the new auction software link here. Then follow these steps:
- Enter an accurate and detailed description of the item(s). This will be used as part of the catalog description. Auction committee members will not always be able to verify your description to your item.
- Notes section should be used to list any restrictions, expiration dates, etc.
- Choose Individual Donor. ** In the case of an individual or family soliciting a donation from a business and using it as their donation commitment, please choose “Individual Donor” and click Yes for “solicited a business for your family donation”. In the following fields give the business name, address, and contact name and phone that you worked with. DO NOT choose the Business Donor box for your family donation. Your personal contact information goes in the “Contact Info” boxes at the bottom of the screen. You should receive a confirmation email.

Holy Rosary Tree Lot – Thank You!
Our school’s Christmas Tree Lot is now closed. It ran smoothly and steady for three weeks, thanks to incredible volunteers. Thank you all who helped with shifts, online marketing, late night deposits, graphic design, sponsoring, unloading trees, selling, setting up and taking it all down. This is such a busy time of the year and to see so many parents out there says a lot about our community. It is truly magical! Special thanks go to Bill Skibitzke and Russell Foisy, our Tree Lot Chairs, for making sure it all happen!

This year we are asking all of our current HRS families to complete an Intent to Register Form online for the 2016-17 school year. Your response will help us with our budget work and also capture new siblings applying to HRS next year. This form will only take a few minutes of your time. Facts Tuition Management System
Presently, over 40% of the Catholic Schools in this Archdiocese use FACTS as a collection system for tuition and fees. This systems allows parents to go online at any time to view their tuition payment plan, make payments for incidental invoices and update personal information. Starting in January, current HRS families will be asked to go online to FACTS and create their profile page and register their students for the 2016-17 school year. The cost for using FACTS Tuition Management System is based on whether you plan to pay tuition in full or make 12 monthly payments. For families choosing to pay in full, the yearly cost is $20 per family. If a family chooses the monthly plan, the yearly cost is $46 per family each year. Fulcrum Foundation Hossfeld Tuition Assistance Program
Families applying for financial aid for the 2016-17 school year will need to complete an application online through FACTS and submit the necessary supporting documentation by January 15, 2016. Apply online now.
You should apply to Fulcrum if:
- Your family has been awarded Fulcrum tuition assistance grants in the past and your financial situation is relatively unchanged.
- Your family qualifies for benefits through federal or state assistance programs such as SNAP or Medicaid.
You should apply for Holy Rosary Financial Aid if:
- Your family has applied for Fulcrum tuition assistance in the past, has never been awarded a grant, and your financial situation is relatively unchanged.
- Your family size is 4 or fewer with a current adjusted gross income greater than $50,000, and you have no extraordinary financial circumstances (major medical expenses, loss of employment, etc.)
Once an application has been completed online, the following information will need to be sent to FACTS to complete the application process:
- Copies of your most recent Federal Tax forms including all supporting tax schedules.
- Copies of your 2015 W-2 form for both you and your spouse.
- Copies of supporting documentation for Social Security Income, Welfare, Child Support, Food Stamps, Workers’ Compensation, and TANF.
All supporting documents can be uploaded in .pdf format online to FACTS. Each family will pay a $24 fee to apply for Financial Aid through the FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment. Announcing A Golden Outreach Event
The Holy Rosary community is our home…we are family. When someone in our family is in need, we are there. Shoulder-to-Shoulder ministry is hosting our Parish’s first Golden Outreach on Saturday, January 23 for parishioners over 80 years old. On this day a meal will be personally delivered to a Golden Parishioner by a Holy Rosary volunteer, including a letter from Father Oakland reassuring the recipient that their parish family is always and only a phone call away. Our goal is for our seniors to know that they can rely on their parish family for help, conversation, and togetherness; no one is alone.
Nearly 150 parishioners over age 80 have been identified. An outreach event of this nature requires many volunteers to cook meals and prepare them for delivery. Our intention is to have enough volunteers to reach as many as 50 of our Golden Parishioners. Please join us. Here’s how you can help:
- Thursday, January 21 6-9:00: Cook meals in School Hall kitchen
- Friday, January 22 6-9:00: Complete & package meals for delivery
- Saturday, January 23 10:00 -1:00: Deliver the meals to Golden Parishioners

REGISTER NOW FOR CYO VOLLEYBALL 2016 – Hello Holy Rosary parents and CYO volleyball players, I know it seems like basketball just started, but volleyball will be here before you know it. CYO volleyball 2016 is just around the corner and it is time to register for another exciting season. Online registration is now open. Please go to this link to register your child for the 2016 Volleyball Season. http://holyrosary.bonzidev.com/home.php. Students in grades 4-8 are eligible to play Volleyball.
Registration for volleyball will close on January 16. Any late registrations after January 16 will be accepted on a space availability basis. The volleyball 2016 registration fees will be $90 per player for grades 5th-8th and $80 per player for 4th graders who have a shorter season.
This year we will be purchasing new uniform shirts for all players. Please make sure to indicate the correct size when registering.
COACHES NEEDED! – All parents who are interested or are planning to coach volleyball as a head coach or an assistant will also need to register on-line. If no coaches register for a particular grade, we will not be able to register a team for that grade. Matches begin weekend of February 20 and run through April 16. Tournament runs April 20- May 1.
