Principal’s Message

Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful (and warm!) Christmas Break!

With the New Year upon us, we are deep into planning for Catholic Schools Week, the auction, and yes, next year! You’ll be receiving information about each in the coming weeks!

Today the eFC carrier (the youngest child in your family) is bringing home two things: The first is a letter outlining our timeline for re-enrollment for next year (January 16th-31st) and the new tuition and fee schedule for next year.

The second is information on a new service we are going to try for emergency communication. It is called Remind.com, and is something we will use in addition to our email blasts and website notifications to alert families of snow closures, late starts, or emergency situations. Remind.com will allow you to receive notifications on your cell phones. I will send a Remind.com test message home next Thursday, so if you would like to use the service please sign up by then!

I hope to see you at the January 11th Parent’s Club meeting. At that meeting I’ll provide a brief school update and presentation on the tuition numbers, along with an update on our accreditation visit this year.

Ms. Horton has granted Friday a Seahawks free dress day. Wear Seahawks logo or colors tomorrow to celebrate the playoff game this weekend.

Development Directives

Invitations to the GRANDPARENTS & SPECIAL FRIENDS LUNCH went out over the weekend. If you did not reply to the previous requests for addresses please email Beth Martin. The lunch will be on Wednesday, February 1 at 11:30 a.m., with doors opening at 11 a.m.

Volunteers are needed to help with set up for the Grandparents Lunch on Tuesday, January 31 and to serve and clean up on Wednesday, February 1. Click here to sign up.

Time to get those AUCTION ITEMS in. A reminder that each family is responsible for procuring an auction item valued at $175 or making a cash donation of $175 to Holy Rosary. If you choose to donate cash, then the auction committee will combine funds to purchase unique items and experiences. All families who donate by this Friday, January 6 will be entered to win one free entry to the BINGO BASH on February 24th.

The AMAZON competition is over. Congrats to 6A; they won the PJ/Pizza party later this month. Holy Rosary raised $3,700 during the month of December and over $10,800 for 2016. Open House on January 29

Book Fair

Sign up here to volunteer for the Catholic Schools Week Book Fair! Catholic Schools Week brings so many wonderful activities enjoyed by students, parents, grandparents, and teachers. The Book Fair is a highlight for many. There is the excitement when a student finds “the best book” or the kindness and smiles on a grandparent’s face as they respond to a special request. You see the patience of a cashier helping a child count the coins in a large sandwich bag. Thanks to the entire Holy Rosary community for supporting reading.

Now is the opportunity to help at the Book Fair. Please click on the link and see if there is a time to volunteer that fits with your schedule. The Fair will be setup on January 24 and closes after school on Wednesday, February 1.

Parents Club Meeting – Save the date!

The next meeting will be Wednesday, January 11th. Social hour starts at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting promptly at 7:00 p.m. Childcare provided. Topics of interest – Principal’s report, School Commission updates, Auction updates and more. Final agenda will be sent out next week. See you there!

Now Accepting Financial Aid Applications

Families applying for financial aid for the 2017-18 school year will need to complete an application online through FACTS and submit the necessary supporting documentation by January 31, 2017. Click on this link to sign-in/or create an account to begin the application. All supporting documents can be uploaded in .pdf format online to FACTS. Each family will pay a $24 fee to apply for financial aid through FACTS Grant and Aid. All financial aid applicants will be scheduled for an in-person meeting in February with the principal to discuss financial need and aid available. RECYCLE and EARN $$$ to Support Holy Rosary School

Did you just get a new cellphone for Christmas? Did you buy new printer cartridges to finish your holiday cards? What do you do with your old ones?

The Holy Rosary Recycling Program will recycle your old cellphones, iPods, and inkjet/toner cartridges for $$$ for Holy Rosary. The best part is there is nothing to buy and no cost to our school. Get family, friends and co-workers to support this program! Simply drop off your items for recycling in the school’s main office. Please do not include manuals or accessories. Thank you to all who have participated this year. The success of this program is because of your involvement.

SUNDANCE Sign-ups Now Online!

Dance classes begin Monday, January 9th. Students must be registered online in order to join class. Online registration and class information is available by following this link. Dance registration closes Friday, January 20th. Looking forward to our spring performance on May 1st!

YOUTH GROUP MEETING – The next Youth Group meeting is this Sunday, January 8, 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the School Hall. All sixth through eighth graders are welcome to join us for a fun Youth Group meeting! High Schoolers are invited as Youth leaders. WORLD YOUTH DAY (WYD) INFO MEETING – If you are the parent of a child in sixth to twelfth grade, a college student, or young adult interested in attending World Youth Day in Panama 2019, please join us for an information session! You will hear testimony from others who have made the trip, answers to frequently asked questions, and how to get involved. We will be hosting two meeting dates Thursday, January 12 and Friday, January 20, both at 7 p.m. in the Holy Rosary School Hall. During the January 12th meeting you will hear from Joe Cotton, who led the St. James Youth Group last summer for WYD in Poland. There is also an informational web page by the USCCB here. YOUTH MINISTRY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! – Are you a baker, project manager, carpool aficionado, or a catechism leader? We are searching for a variety of volunteers in Youth Ministry at Holy Rosary! Help enlighten the youth in our parish by becoming a member of our Leadership Team. We meet every first Wednesday of the month from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Parish Center in room 203. SUNDAY NURSERY – Our Parish Nursery is open on Sundays at the 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Masses in the basement of the Parish Center. The nursery is run by two caregivers who are experienced and enjoy taking care of young children. There is no registration and is for children walking up through Preschool. PROPOSED RE-ZONING IN WEST SEATTLE NEIGHBORHOODS – The city has proposed to change the zoning of many neighborhood blocks in West Seattle. This is occurring under a plan called HALA, the Housing Affordability and Livability Agenda. Many questions are being asked about these proposed changes and their impact on the greater West Seattle Community. Information on HALA can be obtained by visiting http://www.seattle.gov/hala.

JUNIOR CHEER CAMP AT KENNEDY CATHOLIC – On Sunday, January 22, Kennedy is hosting a Junior Cheer Camp for students in grades K-8. Please see this attached flyer for more details and registration.
