Dear Holy Rosary Families,
We’re in the full swing of being back into school, busy with registration, and busy with planning for Catholic Schools week. The days are literally flying by!
I want to alert you to two important upcoming dates:
On Friday, January 27th, we are going to be working with a local film company (owned by a Holy Rosary parent) to shoot a marketing video for our school. It is our intention with the video, to capture the heart and essence of all that happens in our school each and every day- from the prayer service that will happen that morning (which we will hold in the church) to the tremendous activities happening in classrooms throughout the day. If you see cameras filming on that day, that is what’s happening!
Sunday, January 29th is our Catholic Schools Open House, from 11:30 – 1:30 p.m. Please bring your friends and come and celebrate Holy Rosary School and Catholic education! We’ll be celebrating our school community at the 10:30 Mass beforehand, and then walk over to the school together afterward. We’re looking forward to seeing you then!

NEW BEGINNINGS – Tomorrow President-elect Donald Trump will be inaugurated at a time of year when thousands of others around our nation begin their life in public service as well. It is always a time of uncertainty and mixed feelings, with fear and anxiety, but also always some reasons for excitement and hope. And so as a people of faith, let us turn to God and ask His aid and assistance for them, and for our society and nation.
God of power and might, wisdom and justice,
through you authority is rightly administered,
laws are enacted, and judgment is decreed.
Assist with your spirit of counsel and fortitude
the President and other government leaders of these United States.
May they always seek the ways of righteousness, justice and mercy.
Grant that they may be enabled by your powerful protection
to lead our country with honesty and integrity.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
The online re-enrollment link for the 2017/18 school year was sent on Monday, January 16th. The re-enrollment period will be from January 16-31st, so if you haven’t had a chance yet to complete the online form, here is the link to the re-enrollment page.
Students re-enrolled by Friday, January 20th, will earn a free dress pass. The first class that has completed re-enrollment will earn a morning doughnut party.
The school will charge the registration fee of $300 per student to your FACTS account on February 15th. For preschool students, the registration fee will be $200 per student.
FACTS charges an annual fee based on your selected payment plan. Families who choose to pay monthly will pay an annual FACTS fee of $46. The Pay-in-Full option has an annual FACTS fee of $20; families can opt to pay one payment for the year or 2 semi-annual payments. FACTS has increased its credit card fee to 2.85% from 2.75%, for the 2017/18 tuition payment plan year. This will apply to all amounts charged to a credit card.
For those families who have submitted Kindergarten applications, we have begun scheduling Kindergarten classroom assessments, which will be held on February 10th. Please contact email@example.com, if you have not received a sign-up notification for your incoming Kindergartener. Financial Aid Application Deadline January 31
To be considered for financial aid for the 2017/18 school year, current school families should complete their financial aid application online by January 31st. This includes all supporting documents. Families who have applied for financial aid will be scheduled individually for meeting with Principal Anna Horton in mid-February. The financial aid application can be found here.
Scholastic Book Fair
The Book Fair opens in six days — January 25! Let the fun begin! A few volunteer positions are still available in the signupgenius. Plan to stop by the Book Fair and see why the students are so excited. Thank you supporting this fund raiser. 25% of all sales are returned to the library program.
GRANDPARENT’S DAY – Invitations went out for the Grandparents & Special Friends Lunch; please let Beth Martin know if your child’s guest did not receive one. The program will start at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1. The Book Fair will be open at 10:30 a.m. that day for Grandparents & Special Friends to shop early. Fifteen percent of all sales come back to our school as well as bonus books!
AUCTION VOLUNTEERS – Volunteers will be needed to make our largest fundraiser a success! We have immediate needs for volunteers; see the list below and contact Beth Martin at email@example.com if interested.
Are you MUSICALLY TALENTED? The auction venue, Rainier Golf & Country Club, has a baby grand piano. Would you consider sharing your talents during the silent auction and play background music? You would still be able to sit and enjoy the live auction.
Do you LOVE TO PERFORM? The auction is looking for a reader/emcee during the live auction. Duties would include welcoming the guests and reading the live catalog descriptions, then turning it over to the professional auctioneer to start the bidding.
Are you a PROJECT MANAGER? Looking for a dynamic manager to operate at the heart of the auction by running the office. After managing guest registration, the office lead oversees real-time recording of the auction bids. A very reliable and experienced office volunteer team is already in place to staff the office. The outgoing office lead will be out-of-town on auction night but will be on-hand every step of the way to train the incoming lead and help with all details of set-up.
AUCTION TICKETS – Tickets go on sale February 23rd. Get your tables of eight organized for this classy evening at Rainier Golf & Country Club.

During Catholic Schools Week, the seventh and eighth grades will be collecting used coats in good condition. The coats can be for adults or children and will be distributed through St. James Cathedral outreach. There is a collection box in the main hallway just past the front office. Thank you!

WORLD YOUTH DAY (WWD) PARENT/STUDENT INFO MEETINGS – FRIDAY, JANUARY 20, 7:00 P.M., SCHOOL HALL – If you are a parent of a child in grades 6-12, a college student, or a young adult, come learn about WYD in Panama 2019, Friday, January 20, 2017 at 7 p.m. in the Holy Rosary School Hall. WWD is a life-changing event that is being offered to our youth and young adults in our Parish, which happens only every three years. You will hear testimony from others who have made the trip, answers to frequently asked questions, and how to get involved. There is also an informational web page by the USCCB here. MARCH FOR LIFE IN OLYMPIA – If you are interested in participating in the annual March for Life in Olympia this Monday, January 23rd, the parish ministry group Voices for Life has arranged a bus. It will pick up passengers at 7:30 a.m. and travel to St. Martin’s University for a special Mass for Life then go Olympia for a very well attended rally. There will also be an opportunity to meet with our legislators. The bus returns to Holy Rosary at 4:30 p.m. A donation will be collected to help with the cost. YOUTH GROUP FUNDRAISER – SUPER BOWL SUB SANDWICHES – Support Holy Rosary’s Youth Group and order sub sandwiches and/or drink and chips for Super Bowl Sunday. Please complete attached order form and submit with cash or check to the Parish Office. Super Bowl subs will be ready for pickup on Super Bowl Sunday, February 5th, in the School Hall after the 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Masses. For questions, email email@example.com. FREE THROW COMPETITION – Show off your basketball skills. Our Lady of Guadalupe Council Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a Free Throw Competition for all boys and girls ages 9 to 14. It will be held Saturday, February 4th at 9:00 AM. The competition will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Gym, 3410 SW Myrtle St., Seattle. Each boy & girl age group champion will be eligible to advance to the District Competition to be held in February. You must provide proof of age (birth certificate, etc.).
