Happy second week of school!
It feels like we’re starting to get in the swing of things, though there are certainly a lot more protocols and procedures to follow than in years past. Our students are adjusting beautifully and are taking everything very seriously. We are very proud of them!!
As you are likely aware, schools will very soon be required to ensure all individuals with access to students during the school day or during after school activities (which right now includes school-sponsored events and parish activities such as CYO) be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This means to drive on a field trip, coach, or volunteer in any way when students are around you must submit a copy of your COVID-19 vaccination record. In preparation we are asking you parents and guardians to voluntarily complete the vaccine survey included in this eFC message if you have not already done so. We are also asking families to submit the vaccine information for age eligible students if you have not already done that as well. Links to both surveys are included in this week’s eFC.
We continue to encourage people to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Not only is it an act of love towards our brothers and sisters, the more vaccinated people we have on our campus the safer we are all.

Picture Day Is Tuesday, September 14th
Picture Day is this coming Tuesday. Free dress for all students, so come looking your best. Parents have the ability to preorder photos by visiting the Holy Rosary Yuen Lui page through Tuesday, September 21. After this date, photos will be processed for printing. Photos will be shipped to the school for distribution. If you choose to order at a later date, there is an additional cost to cover individualized printing, packaging, and shipping.
Day Of The Doughnuts!!
Thank you to all of the students who completed the math and/or reading challenges! Here is how we will celebrate.
What: A celebration of doughnuts, refreshments, music, trivia, and raffle prizes to reward the students’ hard work
Date: Friday, 9/24
Where: Socially distanced in the school hall
When: Two morning sessions for grades K-4 & two afternoon sessions for grades 5-8
-We will have a variety of doughnuts for the kids to choose from, served by Mrs. Heuer, Ms. Wallace, and other friendly HRS staff! For students with any food allergies, we also will provide tasty gluten-free and dairy-free/vegan options available from Flying Apron.
-We will lead the students in some fun trivia as they enjoy their doughnuts and refreshments. We will hand out some prizes for completing each of the challenges.
-Students who completed each challenge will get their name in a hat for a surprise grand prize at each session! So if a student did both, they will have his/her name entered twice.
-Homeroom teachers will share the list of participants with the students ahead of time and we will make sure participants come at their designated times.
-Volunteer teachers/staff will help greet, serve, make sure students remain distanced, and clean/sanitize between sessions. We look forward to the first annual Day of the Doughnuts!

The Used Uniforms will be available on Tuesday, September 14th at pick up.
Please make sure your child’s name is clearly written on sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets, water bottles and any other personal items. We have many students who have the same backpack, water bottle or sweatshirt. If your child is missing a red cadet jacket, have them check with the office staff. We are making every effort to return items to the correct person.
The school library has several copies of the books nominated for the Battle of the Books. They are available for checkout along with many new books. Ms. Wallace is looking forward to seeing students in the library this year!
Red Cadet Collar Sweatshirts
The Main Office has the red Cadet Collar sweatshirts for those that have ordered them. Please come into the office and pick them up. Some sizes are on backorder. Karla Lawson will let you know if your order is not ready. If you would like to place an order, An order form must be completed to pick up a sweatshirt. The Main Office is open M-F from 9am-3pm.
Volunteer Vaccination Information
Per Governor Jay Inslee’s directive, all volunteers working in proximity to students must be vaccinated. In accordance with this, please fill out the attached form and include a copy of your Covid-19 vaccination card. If we do not receive a vaccination card from you, you will not be able to participate as a volunteer where students are present. If you have any questions, please contact Kristin Bentler.
Student Vaccination Information (6th-8th grade only)
On the recommendation of Public Health, and in order to support us in making decisions regarding programming, we are seeking information on the percentage of eligible students (12 and over) who are vaccinated. Individual student information will be kept confidential. The aggregate data will help us with programming decisions and mitigation efforts.
Please fill out the attached survey. If we do not receive a response from you, your child will be counted in the category of unvaccinated. Decisions around our programming and activities will be based on the percentages of vaccinated students. If you have any questions, please contact Kristin Bentler.
Our 2021-22 family handbook is available online here. Each school year we require parents to review the handbook and sign the online acknowledgement form. Please complete the handbook acknowledgement form by Sunday, September 19th.
BASE Is Hiring
BASE is looking to add another staff member in order to accept more families! Looking for a fully-vaccinated individual (16+) who is looking to work 15-20 hours each week, M-F 2:30 – 6pm. Milk Order Form
Order milk online here for your student for the entire school year. The milk cost is $25 per student, with the option of 1% white milk all week, or 1% white milk Monday-Wednesday with 2% chocolate milk available on Thursday and Friday. Your FACTS account will be billed for your selection. **We will not be offering milk until the 1st week of October**
Need some GatorGear for your student? Sweatshirts and sweatpants can be personalized. Orders will be submitted on the 15th of every month.
EVENTS & FUNDRAISING
Our annual Magazine Drive has officially launched! HRS has consistently been one of the TOP SELLING schools in the nation and we want to continue our reign. We raised over $125,000 last year!!!
Our theme this year is GATOR STRONG – ROOTED IN COMMUNITY! Community makes HRS strong and by working together we will have a successful fundraiser. Fundraising continues to be key to our school’s financial success, please help us reach our goal. Renewal notices are arriving, so let your customers know that HRS will once again be selling magazines. New subscriptions and renewals count towards our goal. Even renewals that weren’t initially purchased through HRS count towards our goal of $125,000.
You will be selling as a family unit, no need to create individual accounts for each of your HRS children. Don’t worry, all HRS students will receive individual prizes at whatever level your family reaches.

Typically HRS students would all gather in the gym for a fun and spirited assembly. This year the student’s will watch a video in class explaining the Magazine Drive and the all-important prizes. Look for a flyer to come home with your student(s) Friday. There are 3 steps you need to complete to be entered to win our first incentive of a $25 Husky Deli gift card.
Looking for 2021-22 Heart Auction Project Coordinators for Each Grade
Welcome back! We’re beginning to plan for this year’s auction and looking for individuals interested in leading each grade’s Auction project. These are important fundraising projects that collectively bring in a sizable amount of much needed funds for the school and your children. This is also a special way to engage with your child’s classmates while also fulfilling your fundraising commitment hours and meeting other parents.

We are looking for parent/guardians to do traffic patrol duty this year for volunteer hours. You would need to be fully vaccinated, and available to arrive on time and stay until your duty is complete. This would be a trimester obligation.

Attention All CYO Cross Country Runners!
CYO CROSS COUNTRY IS VIRTUAL THIS YEAR! Even though all meets will be virtual and there will be no school organized practices you can still participate. Student runners and their timing helpers will need to submit running times by the deadline each week to be considered in the week’s event.
Cost for XC has decreased to $25 due to it being a virtual season. If you have already signed up you may receive a refund or choose to donate your refund to CYO. Please let Jeanne Flohr know what you wish to do.

Last chance to register for CYO soccer. Registration will close at the end of day Friday, September 10th. First games for our 4th to 8th grade teams start this Saturday, September 11th. First games for K to 3rd start on Saturday September 18th. Come join the fun!
CYO is looking for soccer referees to referee games at the 4th and 5th grade level. Referees are paid and must be at least 14 years of age and either be certified already or obtain a WA State Referee certification. Time for Altar Server training! This is for new and returning altar servers. Training is required in order to serve.
Girls and boys in grades 5, 6, 7, 8 and High School can serve the holy people of God during Mass. When we join in the Mass, we remember Jesus and give thanks and praise for all the good things that God does for us.
Altar Servers assist the whole church in praying. They carry the crucifix, candles and books at Mass. They prepare the altar so that bread and wine can become the Body and Blood of Christ!
The priests and the other ministers who help us celebrate the Mass rely on the altar servers so that we can all receive Christ by hearing the Word of God and receiving the Eucharist. Servers are trained after school or in the evening. Current altar servers receive follow-up training.
Older altar servers can learn to lead the other servers at Mass!

We will train all altar servers together–new and old. This helps the new servers learn quicker and helps refresh older servers. We’ll sign up about 10 servers per session.

Rite Of Christian Initiation Adapted For Children
Holy Rosary Church welcomes children 7-18 years of age who have never been baptized, along with their families, on a journey of preparation for initiation into the Catholic Church. Sacramental 2 Preparation (First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion)
Holy Rosary parish follows the guidelines of the Archdiocese of Seattle regarding children’s preparation to receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Children must have one year of religious instruction before being prepared for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. If you have a first grader who is not attending a Catholic school, please make sure you have your child enrolled in Sacramental 1 of our Faith Formation program and are regularly attending the class. Youth Confirmation 2021-2022 Registration Open!
Age of Confirmation
All baptized Catholics in the 7th-12th grade who have not yet been confirmed can register for the 2021 – 2022 Youth Confirmation Program. The program includes 10 Sunday Sessions starting with a Kick-Off Event on September 26thfrom 4:00 – 6:00 PM in the School Hall and concluding with the Confirmation Liturgy in mid-February. Holy Rosary 7th grade students will receive a portion of their confirmation preparation in the classroom.

Adult Volunteer Team
Do you have a heart for young people? Do you recognize how much our young people need God’s love and presence? Then God might be calling you to join our adult volunteer team. Volunteer responsibilities can include leading confirmation small groups, assisting with office work, or helping with hospitality at youth confirmation events!

Salsa for ages 7-12. Develop an appreciation for Latin music. Free preview class Wednesday, September 15th.
