The word for this week is JOYFUL! It is such a joy to have students back on campus. I hope your family is having a positive first week and is adjusting well to the routine of school again. If your kiddos are anything like mine, they are very TIRED at the end of each day! After school routines and early bedtimes can help ease this transition period.
Thank you for your continued diligence around our COVID protocols. Our goal for this year is to stay healthy and to stay open! Please adhere closely to the symptoms flowchart if you suspect any illness for your child or if your family has had a COVID exposure. Though we are relieved and thrilled to be together to start this year, we can in no way let our guard down. It will take all of us collectively managing our own activities and doing all we can to minimize risk within our own families and within our school. We also strongly encourage all age eligible students to be vaccinated against COVID-19. The more vaccinated students we have on campus, the higher our collective safety becomes. As you also are likely aware, in order to volunteer around students in any capacity after October 18th, you must be fully vaccinated. In order to assist us with tracking who is eligible to drive on field trips, to coach, or to volunteer in any way when students are around, we are asking you to complete this form. It is voluntary, but your cooperation in completing it is appreciated!
Tonight is Back To School Night! You have received email links from your teachers and later today you will receive an additional email with those links and a link to a Parent Back-to-School Night message from me and Father Oakland. Thank you for attending virtually tonight. The evening will be filled with a lot of useful information to start the year.

NOTES & REMINDERS
It’s Almost Friday!
Noon dismissal on Friday( A-L 11:55, M-Z 12:05) No school on Monday in honor of Labor Day.
Please make sure your child’s name is clearly written on sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets, water bottles and any other personal items. We have many students who have the same backpack, water bottle or sweatshirt. If your child is missing a red cadet jacket, have them check with the office staff. We are making every effort to return items to the correct person.
Vacation! Out Of State Travel
If you are planning out of state travel, there will still be a quarantine period of 7 days with a Covid test or 10 days without a covid test. If your child is vaccinated and has not been in a high risk area, they do not need to quarantine, but the office will need documented proof of vaccination. If you or your child has traveled in a high risk area or been exposed to high risk situations, please contact the office and we will discuss quarantine restrictions. Non-vaccinated children do not need to quarantine if an immediate family member traveled out of state, unless they were in a high risk area or involved in high risk activity. We are following the Department of Health guidelines for schools at this time. If the guidance changes, we will adjust our rules. The school library has several copies of the books nominated for the Battle of the Books. They are available for checkout along with many new books. Ms. Wallace is looking forward to seeing students in the library this year!
Red Cadet Collar Sweatshirts
The Main Office has the red Cadet Collar sweatshirts for those that have ordered them. Please come into the office and pick them up. Some sizes are on backorder. Karla Lawson will let you know if your order is not ready. If you would like to place an order, An order form must be completed to pick up a sweatshirt. The Main Office is open M-F from 9am-3pm.

Milk Order Form
Order milk online here for your student for the entire school year. The milk cost is $25 per student, with the option of 1% white milk all week, or 1% white milk Monday-Wednesday with 2% chocolate milk available on Thursday and Friday. Your FACTS account will be billed for your selection. **We will not be offering milk until the 1st week of October**
Volunteer Vaccination Information
Per Governor Jay Inslee’s directive, all volunteers working in proximity to students must be vaccinated. In accordance with this, please fill out the attached form and include a copy of your Covid-19 vaccination card. If we do not receive a vaccination card from you, you will not be able to participate as a volunteer where students are present. If you have any questions, please contact Kristin Bentler.
Washington State Law requires in order to dispense medication, prescription and over the counter, your child must have an oral medication/prescription permission form authorized by a licensed healthcare provider, who has prescribed the medication and the parent/legal guardian. The parent/guardian must also provide the medication, which is from a licensed healthcare provider in its original labeled container from the pharmacy. The container must include the name of the student, medication, dosage information, and enough medication to be administered at school. For non-prescription medications such as aspirin, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen the school also needs an oral medication/prescription form signed by a health provider and parent. No medication will be given to a child without an oral medication/prescription form on file.

EVENTS & FUNDRAISING
Our annual Magazine Drive will kick-off at the end of next week. I know some of you are thinking Magazine Drive what is this 1995? Well, HRS just happens to be the TOP SELLING school in the nation and we want to continue our reign. We raised over $125,000 last year!!!
Our theme this year is GATOR STRONG – ROOTED IN COMMUNITY! Community makes HRS strong and by working together we will have a successful fundraiser. Fundraising continues to be key to our school’s financial success, please help us reach our goal. Renewal notices are arriving, so let your customers know that HRS will once again be selling magazines. New subscriptions and renewals count towards our goal. Even renewals that weren’t initially purchased through HRS count towards our goal of $125,000.
You will be selling as a family unit, no need to create individual accounts for each of your HRS children. Don’t worry, all HRS students will receive individual prizes at whatever level your family reaches.

Looking for 2021-22 Heart Auction Project Coordinators for Each Grade
Welcome back! We’re beginning to plan for this year’s auction and looking for individuals interested in leading each grade’s Auction project. These are important fundraising projects that collectively bring in a sizable amount of much needed funds for the school and your children. This is also a special way to engage with your child’s classmates while also fulfilling your fundraising commitment hours and meeting other parents.

We are looking for parent/guardians to do traffic patrol duty this year for volunteer hours. You would need to be fully vaccinated, and available to arrive on time and stay until your duty is complete. This would be a trimester obligation.

Attention All CYO Cross Country Runners!
CYO CROSS COUNTRY IS VIRTUAL THIS YEAR! Even though all meets will be virtual and there will be no school organized practices you can still participate. Student runners and their timing helpers will need to submit running times by the deadline each week to be considered in the week’s event.
Cost for XC has decreased to $25 due to it being a virtual season. If you have already signed up you may receive a refund or choose to donate your refund to CYO. Please let Jeanne Flohr know what you wish to do.

CYO Soccer Players Needed
Calling all soccer players! Registration is still open for CYO soccer. Go to https://www.teamsideline.com/sites/seattlecyo/home scroll to soccer and click ENROLL. Practices have already started so get signed up now! CYO Soccer is also a great way to try out the sport if you have never played before. We are also short players for the following teams and really need more signed up so the kids can play:

CYO is looking for soccer referees to referee games at the 4th and 5th grade level. Referees are paid and must be at least 14 years of age and either be certified already or obtain a WA State Referee certification. Time for Altar Server training! This is for new and returning altar servers. Training is required in order to serve.
Girls and boys in grades 5, 6, 7, 8 and High School can serve the holy people of God during Mass. When we join in the Mass, we remember Jesus and give thanks and praise for all the good things that God does for us.
Altar Servers assist the whole church in praying. They carry the crucifix, candles and books at Mass. They prepare the altar so that bread and wine can become the Body and Blood of Christ!
The priests and the other ministers who help us celebrate the Mass rely on the altar servers so that we can all receive Christ by hearing the Word of God and receiving the Eucharist. Servers are trained after school or in the evening. Current altar servers receive follow-up training.
Older altar servers can learn to lead the other servers at Mass!

Sacramental 2 Preparation (First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion)
Holy Rosary parish follows the guidelines of the Archdiocese of Seattle regarding children’s preparation to receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Children must have one year of religious instruction before being prepared for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Youth Confirmation 2021-2022 Registration Open!
Age of Confirmation
All baptized Catholics in the 7th-12th grade who have not yet been confirmed can register for the 2021 – 2022 Youth Confirmation Program. The program includes 10 Sunday Sessions starting with a Kick-Off Event on September 26thfrom 4:00 – 6:00 PM in the School Hall and concluding with the Confirmation Liturgy in mid-February. Holy Rosary 7th grade students will receive a portion of their confirmation preparation in the classroom.
