Family Communication 9/16/21

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Holy Rosary Families,
The weather has turned a bit cooler today and as I write this I’m feeling fall is in the air.  We’re in our third week of school this week and starting to get in more of a routine.  I bet your kiddos are tired!  This week our first and second graders attended Mass in person and it continues to be wonderful to have this school filled with the busyness of the school day.
Even as we settle into a routine at school, things at school remain different.  We are doing all we can to ensure a happy and positive school environment, but we cannot ignore the need to adhere to strict COVID-19 procedures and protocols. I want to remind families of the importance of adhering to the screening flowchart and how important it is not to send anyone to school who may be experiencing ANY COVID-19 symptoms.  One of the most important things we can do to protect the safety of one another is to ensure that sick individuals do not come onto our campus. We also encourage you to get your flu shots!
The other thing we can do right now to keep one another safe is to support COVID-19 vaccination efforts for each other, including our age eligible students.   Our own Archbishop recently stated:   “We are not yet living in a post-pandemic world, and we must remain vigilant.  We all have an obligation to love our neighbor, to protect our health and to protect the health of others.”   He then went on to strongly encourage everyone to be vaccinated.
Along these lines, our School Commission asked that I share with families the current percentage of age eligible students who are vaccinated in our school.  Based on the survey data we recently collected from families, which was completed by 90% of the families of age eligible students, we are at a vaccination rate of 77% of age eligible students (ages 12 and older).   As younger students become vaccine eligible, we will update this information.  As you also know, by October 18th all schools are legally required to follow Governor Inslee’s vaccine mandate for staff and volunteers.
I know these days are challenging and I thank you so much for your commitment to the safety and well-being of our school community.  I know being attentive to all of this is hard work, but it is through this collective hard work that we demonstrate the love for one another that Jesus taught us.
May the peace of Christ be with you these days,
Anna

COVID-19 Testing
As mentioned earlier in the week, we continue to seek guidance from Public Health regarding the best testing to utilize when there is concern about COVID-19 exposure or when experiencing symptoms. Though the public health documents state an Antigen test is allowable in some circumstances, the consistent messaging we’re hearing from other schools and the Office for Catholic Schools is that the PCR test is the most reliable and accurate.  We will continue to seek more guidance in this area, but are asking families to utilize PCR testing if at all possible.  The city run testing sites and the UW site at Thistle seem to be the most accessible places for PCR tests. We’ve heard, that though appointments are preferable, they will take walk-ups.    If you absolutely are unable to access a PCR test, please contact the office to discuss options.

UPCOMING DATES

    • October 15th – Teacher In-Service (no school)
    • October 18th – Picture Retakes

Altar Server Training

Use the SignupGenius link below to sign up early and reserve your place!
Altar Servers: Altar Server Training (signupgenius.com)
Time for Altar Server training! This is for new and returning altar servers. Training is required in order to serve.
Girls and boys in grades 5, 6, 7, 8 and High School can serve the holy people of God during Mass. When we join in the Mass, we remember Jesus and give thanks and praise for all the good things that God does for us.
Altar Servers assist the whole church in praying. They carry the crucifix, candles and books at Mass. They prepare the altar so that bread and wine can become the Body and Blood of Christ!
The priests and the other ministers who help us celebrate the Mass rely on the altar servers so that we can all receive Christ by hearing the Word of God and receiving the Eucharist. Servers are trained after school or in the evening. Current altar servers receive follow-up training.
Older altar servers can learn to lead the other servers at Mass!
Altar Server Training (2 sessions required)
ALTAR SERVER TRAINING
We have 10 altar server training dates, divided into two sessions, with five options in each. You will need to pick one time from the later ‘B’ session dates: 9/17-23. Thank you!

Training Series B

  • Sept 17 – 3:15-5:15
  • Sept 23 – 6:30-8:30

We will train all altar servers together–new and old. This helps the new servers learn quicker and helps refresh older servers. We’ll sign up about 10 servers per session.
Location: Church Sacristy
