NOTES & REMINDERS


Drop Off And Pick Up Traffic Routes

As a reminder there is NO PARKING in front of the school or in the alley during drop off. If your child needs assistance getting out of the car, please park in the neighborhood and walk them in.  There are “No Parking” signs and city parking enforcement does frequent our street. Do Not Park your car in the alley and walk your child to the school for any reason. The alley is public property and for active loading and unloading only. There are a number of construction projects happening in the area this fall. We recommend avoiding parking on 41st behind the school. Please review the traffic map to help students, families and staff stay safe during high congestion times.

Last names A-L:  Drop off at 8:15-8:25, pick up 2:55 (2:00 Wednesdays)
Last names M-Z:  Drop off at 8:25-8:35, pick up 3:05 (2:10 Wednesdays)

Vacation! Out Of State Travel

If you are planning out of state travel, there will still be a quarantine period of 7 days with a Covid test or 10 days without a covid test. If your child is vaccinated and has not been in a high risk area, they do not need to quarantine, but the office will need documented proof of vaccination. If you or your child has traveled in a high risk area or been exposed to high risk situations, please contact the office and we will discuss quarantine restrictions. Non-vaccinated children do not need to quarantine if an immediate family member traveled out of state, unless they were in a high risk area or involved in high risk activity. We are following the Department of Health guidelines for schools at this time. If the guidance changes, we will adjust our rules. Library

The school library has several copies of the books nominated for the Battle of the Books. They are available for checkout along with many new books. Ms. Wallace is looking forward to seeing students in the library this year!

Classroom Supplies And Comfort Kits Lists

Student classroom supplies have been ordered. A fee of $50 per student will be charged via FACTS on the 15th of September. Please note there are a few items we are still asking families to provide. Click here for details.  Students should bring comfort kits to their classrooms on the first day of school.

First Week Of School Schedule

The first day of school is Monday, August 30th. Please come in Perfect Uniform. Dismissal is at 11:55/12:05pm for grades 1-8 and at 10am for kindergarten. On Tuesday, August 31st, school dismisses at 2:55/3:05pm for grades 1-8 and at 12pm for kindergarten. On Wednesday, September 1st, school dismisses at 2:00/2:10pm. Wednesday is also opening Mass at 8:45. Please wear Perfect Uniform. On Thursday, September 2nd, school dismisses at 2:55/3:05pm. Friday, September 3rd is 11:55/12:05pm dismissal.

WestFest

Given all of the challenges with COVID, we sadly will not be offering WestFest this coming fall.  We will continue to explore other ways to hold community events during the year, and will look forward to a full return in Fall 22!

Red Cadet Collar Sweatshirts

The Main Office has the red Cadet Collar sweatshirts for those that have ordered them. Please come into the office and pick them up. Some sizes are on backorder. Karla Lawson will let you know if your order is not ready. If you would like to place an order, An order form must be completed to pick up a sweatshirt.  The Main Office is open M-F from 9am-3pm.

Milk Order Form

Order milk online here for your student for the entire school year. The milk cost is $25 per student, with the option of 1% white milk all week, or 1% white milk Monday-Wednesday with 2% chocolate milk available on Thursday and Friday. Your FACTS account will be billed for your selection.

Volunteer Vaccination Information

Per Governor Jay Inslee’s directive, all volunteers working in proximity to students must be vaccinated. In accordance with this, please fill out the attached form and include a copy of your Covid-19 vaccination card. If we do not receive a vaccination card from you, you will not be able to participate as a volunteer where students are present. If you have any questions, please contact Kristin Bentler.

Medication Policy

Washington State Law requires in order to dispense medication, prescription and over the counter, your child must have an oral medication/prescription permission form authorized by a licensed healthcare provider, who has prescribed the medication and the parent/legal guardian. The parent/guardian must also provide the medication, which is from a licensed healthcare provider in its original labeled container from the pharmacy. The container must include the name of the student, medication, dosage information, and enough medication to be administered at school. For non-prescription medications such as aspirin, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen the school also needs an oral medication/prescription form signed by a health provider and parent. No medication will be given to a child without an oral medication/prescription form on file.

Summer Math Challenge

Summer is almost here!  Summer is a time to relax and recharge, but we hope the students find some time to do some math, too! 🙂 The students can print and fill out the record sheet throughout the summer.  Students also received this calendar from their teachers.  At the end of the summer, the students will make sure they have their full name, grade, completed sheet, and parent signature into either the office or Mrs. Heuer by the first Friday of school.  These students will have a prize announced in the fall!

Summer Reading Challenge!

Find a shady spot in your yard or a comfy chair and grab a good book! Here is our challenge to each student, parent, teacher, and staff member at Holy Rosary School: make reading a part of your daily schedule this summer by reading for at least 20 minutes each day of summer vacation! Use this calendar to keep track of your reading time by coloring in each day you read.

Looking for 2021-22 Heart Auction Project Coordinators for Each Grade

Welcome back! We’re beginning to plan for this year’s auction and looking for individuals interested in leading each grade’s Auction project. These are important fundraising projects that collectively bring in a sizable amount of much needed funds for the school and your children. This is also a special way to engage with your child’s classmates while also fulfilling your fundraising commitment hours and meeting other parents.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES


Construction Help Needed

Do you have construction/building experience and tools? We are looking for one or two people to help us install white boards in classrooms. The schedule can be flexible and this is a great way to earn volunteer hours. Contact Kristin Bentler if you are interested. Full Vaccination required.

Traffic Patrol

We are looking for parent/guardians to do traffic patrol duty this year for volunteer hours. You would need to be fully vaccinated, and available to arrive on time and stay until your duty is complete. This would be a trimester obligation.
Start Date:
October 2nd – December 12th
December 14th – March 18th
March 21st – June 10th
Times:
8:00-8:40am
2:45-3:15pm   1:45-2:15pm (Wednesdays)   11:55-12:20pm (1/2 days)
You could choose to do one day per week, AM or PM, or both AM & PM on the same day if you wish. Please contact Maggie Judd if you are interested.

Room Parents Needed

Now that class lists are out, we are looking for room parents for KA, KB, 1A, 3B and 5B
Be a room parent for the 2021-2022 school year! If you enjoy planning and attending classroom parties, parent nights out, and spoiling the teachers with birthday gifts, then this job is for you! Room parents fill such an important role in each class and help take a little weight off our teacher’s shoulders. This time spent also goes towards your family commitment hours. If you are interested in being a room parent during the 2021-2022 school year or would like more information on room parent responsibilities, please contact Joellyn DeRonghe at joellyn17@hotmail.com. Please note: I am moving forward with the intent that we will be able to resume all or most of the duties. But please know there could be modifications depending on guidelines from the school as we get closer to the Fall.


EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES


Attention All CYO Cross Country Runners!

CYO CROSS COUNTRY IS VIRTUAL THIS YEAR! Even though all meets will be virtual and there will be no school organized practices you can still participate. Student runners and their timing helpers will need to submit running times by the deadline each week to be considered in the week’s event.

Cost for XC has decreased to $25 due to it being a virtual season. If you have already signed up you may receive a refund or choose to donate your refund to CYO. Please let Jeanne Flohr know what you wish to do.
THANK YOU to Lisa Nooyen who will be our XC coordinator this season. She will have more information to share with participants after her coach meeting on September 8.

CYO Soccer Players Needed

Calling all soccer players! Registration is still open for CYO soccer. Go to https://www.teamsideline.com/sites/seattlecyo/home scroll to soccer and click ENROLL. Practices have already started so get signed up now! CYO Soccer is also a great way to try out the sport if you have never played before. We are also short players for the following teams and really need more signed up so the kids can play: 
– 4th grade girls
– 5th grade boys 
– 6th grade boys 

Referees

CYO is looking for soccer referees to referee games at the 4th and 5th grade level. Referees are paid and must be at least 14 years of age and either be certified already or obtain a WA State Referee certification. Altar Server Training

Time for Altar Server training! This is for new and returning altar servers. Training is required in order to serve.
Girls and boys in grades 5, 6, 7, 8 and High School can serve the holy people of God during Mass. When we join in the Mass, we remember Jesus and give thanks and praise for all the good things that God does for us.
Altar Servers assist the whole church in praying. They carry the crucifix, candles and books at Mass. They prepare the altar so that bread and wine can become the Body and Blood of Christ!
The priests and the other ministers who help us celebrate the Mass rely on the altar servers so that we can all receive Christ by hearing the Word of God and receiving the Eucharist. Servers are trained after school or in the evening. Current altar servers receive follow-up training.
Older altar servers can learn to lead the other servers at Mass!

ALTAR SERVER TRAINING
We have 10 altar server training dates, divided into two sessions, with five options in each. You will need to pick two times: one time from the earlier ‘A’ session dates: 8/24-9/3, and one time from the later ‘B’ session dates: 9/15-23. Thank you!Training Series A

Rite Of Christian Initiation Adapted For Children

Holy Rosary Church welcomes children 7-18 years of age who have never been baptized, along with their families, on a journey of preparation for initiation into the Catholic Church. Sacramental 2 Preparation (First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion) 

Holy Rosary parish follows the guidelines of the Archdiocese of Seattle regarding children’s preparation to receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Children must have one year of religious instruction before being prepared for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. If you have a first grader who is not attending a Catholic school, please make sure you have your child enrolled in Sacramental 1 of our Faith Formation program and are regularly attending the class. Youth Confirmation 2021-2022 Registration Open!

Age of Confirmation
All baptized Catholics in the 7th-12th grade who have not yet been confirmed can register for the 2021 – 2022 Youth Confirmation Program. The program includes 10 Sunday Sessions starting with a Kick-Off Event on September 26thfrom 4:00 – 6:00 PM in the School Hall and concluding with the Confirmation Liturgy in mid-February. Holy Rosary 7th grade students will receive a portion of their confirmation preparation in the classroom.

Do you have a heart for young people? Do you recognize how much our young people need God’s love and presence? Then God might be calling you to join our adult volunteer team.
