Family Communication 7/29/21

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Holy Rosary Families,

We are just over 4 weeks before the start of school!  I hope you’re enjoying these summer days and beautiful weather.
I was hoping with this message I would have a lot of additional information to share regarding the start of the school year, but we just haven’t received it yet from the state. I believe the Department of Health is watching what is happening with case counts throughout the region before releasing additional information to schools, which we hear should be released no later than the first week in August.
In the meantime, what we know is that masks are definitely going to be required for everyone to start the year regardless of vaccination status.  If your child was not wearing a mask in school last year (i.e. was not in school full days), we’d ask that you start practicing wearing masks to help them adjust at the start of the year.  We will keep many of the mitigation strategies that were in place at the end of the year, more to come on that as we receive information from the state.
Some have asked about whether the COVID vaccine is required for school attendance for age eligible students.  Right now, because the COVID vaccine is not part of the mandated Washington state vaccination schedule, it is not required for school attendance.  But we strongly encourage all age eligible students to be vaccinated, as the more students and staff who are vaccinated the more we can collectively protect those in the school setting not eligible for vaccination.
One reminder- if your family is traveling out of the state after the second week in August, please email Kristin Bentler (kbentler@holyrosaryws.org).  We will be following whatever the current travel recommendations are at the time, so it will be helpful for us to have a list of those traveling.
I will keep you informed as we receive more information.  We are very excited to see your children in just over a month!  Enjoy the last month of summer and keep reading!

In Christ,
Anna

Holy Rosary School Uniform Policy- Plan now for the fall!

T-shirts worn under uniform shirts must be plain white (no emblem, logo or color). Shirts must be long enough to stay tucked in.
  2. Red sweaters (cardigans/pullovers/vests purchased at uniform store) may be worn; Holy Rosary logo red sweatshirts purchased through the Lands’ End Uniform Store may also be worn as can the cadet red zip jackets. Eighth graders may wear Holy Rosary logo navy or Holy Rosary logo grey sweatshirts purchased through Lands’ End Uniform Store. On perfect uniform days, students must wear proper uniform sweaters, sweatshirts or vests as defined in the policy. All school Mass days are perfect uniform days.
  3. In K-7th, red knit, polo style shirts with a collar purchased through Lands’ End Uniform Store or Dennis Uniform may be worn on non-perfect uniform days.

  5.  Red polar fleece vest with HRS logo purchased from the uniform store may be worn instead of uniform sweaters, sweatshirts or vests. Students may not wear any other type of fleece vests, coats, or jackets in the classrooms. Red polar fleece vests with HRS logo can be worn on perfect uniform days.

No sagging, oversized, cropped or tight pants may be worn. Pants with extra pockets, such as cargo or painters pants, may not be worn to school. Pants must have zippers, not buttons.

  8.  Girls (Gr. K-4th) may wear Macbeth plaid jumpers or skorts; (Gr. 5th-6th) may wear Macbeth plaid jumpers, skirts or skorts, and (Gr. 7th-8th) may wear navy skirts or skorts. All jumpers/skirts/skorts must be purchased from the uniform store, may not be shorter than 3”above kneecap and may not be rolled at the waist.
  9.  Socks for boys and socks or tights for girls must be worn. Socks/tights must be mostly solid colors—white, black, gray, red or navy—and can be knee-high or ankle length and must match. Lands’ End approved uniform leggings may be worn in navy or black under jumpers or skirts.
Macbeth Plaid

If your child has outgrown any Macbeth plaid or navy skirts and you would like to donate them to the Used Uniform Closet, please drop them off in the bin outside the Main Office.  The Used Uniform Closet is no longer taking any white/red polos or navy pants or shorts.

ACTION ITEMS

Immunization Requirement Changes

Washington state is requiring that all students be up-to-date on their required vaccinations by the start of the school year. Students will not be allowed to start school if all required vaccinations are not documented or a signed medical exemption given to the school. Contact Kristin Bentler if you have any questions or concerns.

Change Of Address

Our school directory will be printed in late August. If your family has moved and you have not notified the office, please email Kristin Bentler with your updated information by August 15th. Class assignments will be mailed out mid-August to the address we have on file.

4th, 5th & 6th Grade Parents

Still looking for additional volunteers for 4th, 5th and 6th grade!
Be a room parent for the 2021-2022 school year! If you enjoy planning and attending classroom parties, parent nights out, and spoiling the teachers with birthday gifts, then this job is for you! Room parents fill such an important role in each class and help take a little weight off our teacher’s shoulders. This time spent also goes towards your family commitment hours. If you are interested in being a room parent during the 2021-2022 school year or would like more information on room parent responsibilities, please contact Joellyn DeRonghe at joellyn17@hotmail.com. Thank you! Please note: I am moving forward with the intent that we will be able to resume all or most of the duties. But please know there could be modifications depending on guidelines from the school as we get closer to the Fall.

Summer Math Challenge

Summer is almost here!  Summer is a time to relax and recharge, but we hope the students find some time to do some math, too! 🙂 The students can print and fill out the record sheet throughout the summer.  Students also received this calendar from their teachers.  At the end of the summer, the students will make sure they have their full name, grade, completed sheet, and parent signature into either the office or Mrs. Heuer by the first Friday of school.  These students will have a prize announced in the fall!

Summer Reading Challenge!

Find a shady spot in your yard or a comfy chair and grab a good book! Here is our challenge to each student, parent, teacher, and staff member at Holy Rosary School: make reading a part of your daily schedule this summer by reading for at least 20 minutes each day of summer vacation! Use this calendar to keep track of your reading time by coloring in each day you read.

GatorGear

Need some GatorGear for your student? Sweatshirts and sweatpants can be personalized and are usually ready within a week or two of ordering.

PARISH NEWS

Altar Server Training

Use the SignupGenius link below to sign up early and reserve your place!
Altar Servers: Altar Server Training (signupgenius.com)
Time for Altar Server training! This is for new and returning altar servers. Training is required in order to serve.
Girls and boys in grades 5, 6, 7, 8 and High School can serve the holy people of God during Mass. When we join in the Mass, we remember Jesus and give thanks and praise for all the good things that God does for us.
Altar Servers assist the whole church in praying. They carry the crucifix, candles and books at Mass. They prepare the altar so that bread and wine can become the Body and Blood of Christ!
The priests and the other ministers who help us celebrate the Mass rely on the altar servers so that we can all receive Christ by hearing the Word of God and receiving the Eucharist. Servers are trained after school or in the evening. Current altar servers receive follow-up training.
Older altar servers can learn to lead the other servers at Mass!
Altar Server Training (2 sessions required)
Training Series A

  • Aug 24 – 7-9pm
  • Aug 25 – 3-5 (pick only one 8/25)
  • Aug 25 – 6:45-8:45 (pick only one 8/25)

  • Sept 22 – 2:30-5:30
  • Sept 23 – 6:30-8:30

We will train all altar servers together–new and old. This helps the new servers learn quicker and helps refresh older servers. We’ll sign up about 10 servers per session.
