Junior High Summer Reading List And Battle Of The Books Competition

Keep your reading skills sharp by choosing some of these great books to read over the summer. In Junior High you will all take part in Battle of the Books, a fun academic team challenge where you will collectively read a list of books for a competition in the spring. You can get a jump start by reading some of the books off our Battle of the Books list this summer. You might also enjoy reading some great titles that have been nominated for book awards. No matter what books you choose, the most important part is to have reading be a part of your summer routine. Take your books with you on all your summer adventures and enjoy! Book List

Calendar Updates & Schedule Changes

One change has been made to the 22-23 school calendar per the Office for Catholic Schools:  January 2 is now a non-student day. There will be no BASE on that day. We are also adjusting our start time in the morning. The first bell will ring at 8:15 for students A-L. The second bell will be at 8:25 for student M-Z. Classes will begin at 8:30am each day for all students. We will continue to have our current pick up times of  2:55/3:05 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 2:00/2:10 on Wednesdays.
Save the Date–  August 31, 2:00 – 3:00, optional Meet The Teacher time.  Stop by and say hello to your child’s teacher for next year once class lists are posted in August!

Summer Math & Reading Challenge

It’s almost summer, which means time for fun and relaxation!  Students also have the opportunity to keep their math skills sharp and their imagination active by participating in the summer math and reading challenge.  Students should fill out and record their time as the summer progresses and be ready to turn it in during the first week back at school.  It will be due on Sept. 9th!  Both the summer math and reading challenges are optional.

Immunization Requirements for 2022/23

Per the State Department of Health, all required vaccinations must be up-to-date by the first day of school. If a student is missing any of the required vaccinations, they will not be able to start school until those doses have been administered. There is no longer a thirty day grace period. The only accepted exemption is medical. You can access your child’s state immunization records at My IR Mobile. If you have any questions, please contact Kristin Bentler in the school office.

SUMMER CAMPS

Choir Camp At St.James Cathedral

For five days, campers sing, laugh, and play in a beautiful and welcoming environment. Choristers will learn a variety of music spanning the Church’s history, from ancient to modern. Campers share their music through a mid-week mini-concert at a nearby retirement community and a Friday Cathedral concert; and on Sunday, they provide the music for the 10:00am Mass. This year, we have simultaneous programs for singers entering grades 1–3 in the fall (Seraphim Choir – limited enrollment) and those entering grades 4–8 (Schola Cantorum). Girls Rock Math

Girls Rock Math (GRM) is a non-profit offering STEAM summer camps. Our mission is to provide thought-provoking, creative experiences in math, empowering girls to develop confidence in their skills, and a life-long interest in mathematics.
Intern-Counselors are a very important part of our GRM program – they wear a staff shirt and name badge. They attend Staff Meetings with our Counselors-in-Training (CITs), teachers, and Site Director. Intern-Counselors work with teachers to ensure campers are having an enriching summer experience. Throughout the week, they work with mentors to guide them in leading, collaborating, and planning activities for campers. They reflect on their experience with other Intern-Counselors as well as their college-aged mentors. Reflection coupled with hands-on experience builds great leadership skills all while having fun and earning service hours. (One week of camp plus training is approximately 40 hours of community service.)
Here are some other things Intern-Counselors do at camp:

  • Sing, play games and do outdoor activities with campers
  • Assist the teacher as needed
  • Ensure campers are safe
  • Work with younger campers on games, projects and problems
  • Be responsible, reliable, and punctual
  • Have fun during recess and lunch
  • Follow camp rules

If you know of female-identifying students who would be interested in being a part of this summer’s Intern-Counselor program, please pass along our website:
