PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Holy Rosary Families,
I hope your first week of summer vacation has been relaxing.  We are missing our students around the school, but things remain busy around here.  We have begun the process of moving classrooms back to their original locations, are busy setting up rooms and new learning spaces, and have started painting and cleaning.  We are also preparing for flooring updates to four classrooms.  A school never really closes, as there is much work to be done to end one year and prepare for the next.
I do hope this start to summer includes a lot of time for fun, and some time dedicated to reading, writing, and practicing math.  A short time each day dedicated to each of these will go a very long way to being prepared to return this fall.  Remember, our first day of school is Monday, August 30th.
Keep an eye on this eFC throughout the summer, as it will contain important updates. Again, the eFC will run through June, twice in July, and then resume a regular weekly schedule August 12th.
Enjoy this glorious summer weather!!
In Christ,
Anna

PASTOR’S MESSAGE

In the last year and a half, a number of our families have moved into new homes in the area.  A few asked about home blessings early on but I was only making home visits for sick calls at the time.  As we begin reopening, and with summer schedules being a little lighter, if you would like me to come over for a house blessing, or just dinner, let me know and we will get it on the calendar! froakland@holyrosaryseattle.org
In Christ,
Fr. Oakland

Vacation! Out Of State Travel

If you are planning out of state travel prior to returning to school, there will still be a quarantine period of 7 days with a Covid test or 10 days without a covid test. We are following the Department of Health guidelines for schools at this time. If the guidance changes before the start of the school year, we will adjust our rules. If you have any questions, email Kristin Bentler in the school office.

Holy Rosary School is Hiring!

We wanted to share with you one more staffing change.  Our kindergarten aid, Gracie Ramirez, will be leaving us after this year.  Gracie has been a true gem when it comes to supporting kindergarten students- in person and on zoom.  We will miss her kind smile and positive spirit. Please join me in wishing her well!
Holy Rosary School is now hiring for three open positions:  Spanish teacher (shared position with OLG), Kindergarten Aid, and Admissions/Development Associate.  Each of these positions can be found through the Archdiocese of Seattle Frontline system:  Archdiocese of Seattle Catholic Schools – Frontline Recruitment (applitrack.com) or you can contact Anna Horton to learn more.

7th Grade Missionary Disciples

As part of their 2020-2021 religion curriculum, HRS 7th grade students learned how they can be lifelong missionary disciples. They researched 5 justice topics and voted to study one of the topics, Care For God’s Creation, in greater depth. As part of their missionary disciple formation, students enjoyed an immersion experience meeting in Advent with migrant farmworkers (on Zoom) to learn about their lives. In Easter Season, students made a missionary disciple response as a class by donating personally messaged journals and art supplies to farmworker family children; the children can enjoy these supplies while their parents are working in the fields. Our students also collected items for three gardening kits to make it possible for impoverished families to enjoy gardening in God’s creation. In all this, they were guided by Catholic Community Services and the Missionary Disciple Institute, answering Pope Francis’ call to encounter God’s love and take it to others.

WestFest

Given all of the challenges with COVID, we sadly will not be offering WestFest this coming fall.  We will continue to explore other ways to hold community events during the year, and will look forward to a full return in Fall 22!

Parents Club is looking for Officers!

ACTION ITEMS

Nurse Needed – Earn Volunteer Hours

The office is looking for assistance from a nurse this summer. You can earn a couple of volunteer hours from home. Contact kbentler@holyrosary.org if you are interested.

Summer Math Challenge

Summer is almost here!  Summer is a time to relax and recharge, but we hope the students find some time to do some math, too! 🙂 The students can print and fill out the record sheet throughout the summer.  Students also received this calendar from their teachers.  At the end of the summer, the students will make sure they have their full name, grade, completed sheet, and parent signature into either the office or Mrs. Heuer by the first Friday of school.  These students will have a prize announced in the fall!

Summer Reading Challenge!

Find a shady spot in your yard or a comfy chair and grab a good book! Here is our challenge to each student, parent, teacher, and staff member at Holy Rosary School: make reading a part of your daily schedule this summer by reading for at least 20 minutes each day of summer vacation! Use this calendar to keep track of your reading time by coloring in each day you read.

Safe Environment Training

Are you in need of your initial 3 hour Safe Environment training? All volunteers must pass a background check and complete Safe Environment training to volunteer in the school with kids, go on field trips, etc.  We continue to have the option for the foundation class to be taught online.  Anna Horton will be teaching a Virtual Class June 28th at 9:00 am.  More opportunities will become available, but this is a good chance to get it done early.  Sign ups can be done through Virtus

Room Parent Recruitment

Be a room parent for the 2021-2022 school year! If you enjoy planning and attending classroom parties, parent nights out, and spoiling the teachers with birthday gifts, then this job is for you! Room parents fill such an important role in each class and help take a little weight off our teacher’s shoulders. This time spent also goes towards your family commitment hours. If you are interested in being a room parent during the 2021-2022 school year or would like more information on room parent responsibilities, please contact Joellyn DeRonghe at joellyn17@hotmail.com. Thank you!
Please note: I am moving forward with the intent that we will be able to resume all or most of the duties. But please know there could be modifications depending on guidelines from the school as we get closer to the Fall.
