Family Communication 5/5/22

Dear Holy Rosary Families,
It’s auction week!  This is especially exciting because this in person auction is two years in the making.  Thank you to all of our families for supporting this event, our largest fundraiser of the year.  It’s going to be a wonderful party! Check out our class auction projects as well, available for online bidding through tomorrow night!
Currently there is an uptick in COVID case counts in our school and in the greater community, but it will not get in the way of a fantastic auction.   If you are attending our auction, help us keep our entire community safe.  Please consider testing yourself for COVID prior to attending.   A few of you have asked about the length of isolation/quarantine if you’ve recently been impacted by COVID yourself, so I’m linking the Department of Health Isolation guidance here.  Working together we can ensure a safe and healthy evening!
In other news around the school, I wanted to give you one additional hiring update.  As you know, Vice Principal Mary Jo McFaul has made the decision to retire in June.   She lives big shoes to fill!  As we look at the longer term needs of our school, I have decided to head in the direction of hiring an Interim Vice Principal for next year and will continue looking at how the position should be filled longer term.  I’m thrilled to say that Lauren Samson has accepted an offer to be an Interim Vice Principal next year.  You likely remember that Lauren moved and is looking to work closer to home long term, but we’re very lucky to have her with us for one more year.  She will assume this new role August 1st and will be in it through June 30, 2023.   Welcome (back) Lauren!
In Christ,

Teaching your child to advocate for themselves
Self-advocacy is defined as being able to identify and ask for what you need to thrive. As parents help children to grow, it is important to encourage kids to become more comfortable with expressing their needs. Kids who learn self-advocacy skills will eventually become more confident, independent, and self-aware adults. Voicing what you need and speaking up can be a tricky skill to master, so here are some concrete ways to work on self-advocacy. Keep Reading…

School Calendar For 2022/23

The calendar for next year is on the school website. Over the summer there will be a few updates so check back before the start of the school year. You can also look at the Google calendar, which is updated regularly.

Immunization Requirements for 2022/23

Per the State Department of Health, all required vaccinations must be up-to-date by the first day of school. If a student is missing any of the required vaccinations, they will not be able to start school until those doses have been administered. There is no longer a thirty day grace period. The only accepted exemption is medical. You can access your child’s state immunization records at My IR Mobile. If you have any questions, please contact Kristin Bentler in the school office.

Masking Update/Changes in Mass

We continue to ask our students to have a mask available, in case they find themselves in a situation where distancing is challenging or if they need to work closely with someone.  Thank you for making sure your child has a mask in their backpack.  Number of new COVID cases in the school this week (as of Thursday am) = 28

Talent Show Auditions – Next Week

Students who turned in a permission slip will get an invitation, but we wanted to share our schedule.  We plan on downloading any music needed that was on the permission slips from Apple Music, but if you’d rather send me (Megan Heuer – an audio file ahead of time, we can try to use that.  Students will audition during their lunch time, so they’ll bring over their lunch (hot or cold) to the gym.  They will also want to bring any props needed for the audition.  No change of clothes needed.  Dress rehearsals are the following week.  More information in next week’s eFC on rehearsals.

Scholastic Book Fair

We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. Hosted by our staff, this event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries and further their love of reading. As always, all purchases benefit our school.
After missing out on many beloved traditions, our spring Book Fair will be a familiar, welcome, and safe event for our students. Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from May 31 through June 6, 2022 at Holy Rosary Library.
Our Book Fair offers eWallet, a safe and secure alternative to cash. Simply create a free account to add funds and/or invite family and friends to contribute so your child can select their own books. Any unused funds can be spent at The Scholastic Store Online or to fund a future eWallet. This will be accessible on May 16 though the book fair homepage. Stay tuned for more information.
If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school. More information to come!
We’re excited to celebrate our love of books together at the Book Fair. We look forward to seeing your child there!

Girls Rock Math

Girls Rock Math (GRM) is a non-profit offering STEAM summer camps. Our mission is to provide thought-provoking, creative experiences in math, empowering girls to develop confidence in their skills, and a life-long interest in mathematics.
Intern-Counselors are a very important part of our GRM program – they wear a staff shirt and name badge. They attend Staff Meetings with our Counselors-in-Training (CITs), teachers, and Site Director. Intern-Counselors work with teachers to ensure campers are having an enriching summer experience. Throughout the week, they work with mentors to guide them in leading, collaborating, and planning activities for campers. They reflect on their experience with other Intern-Counselors as well as their college-aged mentors. Reflection coupled with hands-on experience builds great leadership skills all while having fun and earning service hours. (One week of camp plus training is approximately 40 hours of community service.)
Here are some other things Intern-Counselors do at camp:

  • Sing, play games and do outdoor activities with campers
  • Assist the teacher as needed
  • Ensure campers are safe
  • Work with younger campers on games, projects and problems
  • Be responsible, reliable, and punctual
  • Have fun during recess and lunch
  • Follow camp rules

If you know of female-identifying students who would be interested in being a part of this summer’s Intern-Counselor program, please pass along our website:
