Dear Holy Rosary Families,
Come Holy Spirit!
This past Pentecost Sunday we celebrated the Baccalaureate Mass for our graduating 8th graders.  This beautiful celebration, and outpouring of the Holy Spirit, was the perfect way to begin the celebration of our graduates who will be leaving us soon.  Please continue to hold these students in your prayers during these final days they are in school with us!
The guidance for next year is starting to unfold and we will be keeping a close eye on things in the coming days and months and communicate more with you as we learn more.  Just yesterday, I learned that it looks unlikely that we will be required to do a health attestation each day next year, though we will likely still expect parents to screen students prior to their arrival at school.  This is just one example of the changing guidance- look for more information in the coming months.  We will also publish our eFC during the summer as a way of keeping you informed of changes and preparation for the fall.  We will run the eFC through June, and then again on July 15th and 29th.  We will resume the usual publishing schedule on Thursday August 12th.   
Finally, your children should be coming home with a t-shirt today.  These shirts are to commemorate this unforgettable year, and we’re asking all staff and students to wear them together on Wednesday June 2nd.  Please hold on to it and have your child wear it next week!
Mark your calendars for our end of the school year Mass, Friday June 11th at 8:45 am.  This Mass will be livestreamed and we ask all families to watch this from home with your children.

This past weekend it was a joy to celebrate and give thanks with our 8th graders and their parents, as we gathered for Mass and then our online awards night – acknowledging their many and varied gifts and talents.  Transitions are challenging, and we will be sad to see them go, but it is a time filled with hope, too, as we look forward to the ways God will work in their lives, and through them, the world. 
Tomorrow another round of letters will be going out asking parishioners who haven’t responded yet to join in supporting the Annual Catholic Appeal.  If you haven’t yet done so, please support the ongoing work of the Church in Western Washington – which is not possible without the help of each member of the Body of Christ.  The ACA allows us to continue our loving service of hundreds of thousands each year, Catholic and non-Catholic alike, fostering the life of faith, gathering communities together, supporting people in need, and much more as we continue the mission of Jesus.

Holy Rosary School is Hiring!

Holy Rosary School is hiring for three open positions:  Spanish teacher (shared position with OLG), Before/After School Care Program Director, and Admissions/Development Associate.  Each of these positions can be found through the Archdiocese of Seattle Frontline system:  Archdiocese of Seattle Catholic Schools – Frontline Recruitment ( or you can contact Anna Horton to learn more.
Note:  Beth Martin will move into the position of Advancement Director overseeing Admissions, Development, and Marketing.  The associate position we are hiring for will provide overall support for both development, admissions, and marketing. 

Calendar Dates

Please refer to the school calendar closely for the remainder of this school year.  As a reminder, June 10th is a noon dismissal from school.  June 11th is an asynchronous Friday, so there will be no in person attendance at school.  There will be a whole school Mass live streamed at 8:45 am on June 11th and we ask all families to watch this important celebration from home.  You can also join in and watch our 8th grade Baccalaureate Mass (live streamed at 3:00 pm on 5/23) and 8th grade Graduation (live streamed at 7:00 pm on June 3rd).


Given all of the challenges with COVID, we sadly will not be offering WestFest this coming fall.  We will continue to explore other ways to hold community events during the year, and will look forward to a full return in Fall 22!

Parents Club Service Award

This year at our 8th grade Virtual Baccalaureate Dinner, we announced the winner of the Parents Club Service Award. This award is typically given to 8th grade parents whose youngest child is graduating from HRS. We’d like to acknowledge two people this year: Marty Johnson and Molly Ward. These wonderful parents have given hours and hours of their time as room parents, field trip chaperones and event chairs. 

Molly Ward has been at HRS for 13 years, her youngest will be graduating this year and moving onto high school. Molly joined the auction committee early on, serving 11 years, during her time at HRS. She took the lead on decorations and logistics, accumulating more than 50 volunteer hours annually. She also served on School Commission and volunteered at multiple events throughout her time at HRS.

Marty Johnson has been at HRS for 13 years, her youngest is graduating this year and moving onto high school. Marty was a dedicated member of the auction committee and chaired decorations and logistics as well. Marty also used her talent for flare and details as a room parent.
Marty and Molly are shining examples of what it means to be working moms and involved community members. We appreciate everything they have given to our Holy Rosary Community. We wish their families the best of luck as they move on to new adventures! 
Holy Rosary School Uniform Policy- Plan now for the fall!
  1. For perfect uniform in grades K-7th, shirts must be white knit, polo or oxford style with a collar or turtleneck (8th graders may also wear navy blue shirts/turtlenecks). White camp shirts purchased from the uniform store are allowed. Shirts must have long/short sleeves (no ¾-length or rolled-up sleeves) and may not be oversized, baggy, or tight. T-shirts worn under uniform shirts must be plain white (no emblem, logo or color). Shirts must be long enough to stay tucked in.
  2. Red sweaters (cardigans/pullovers/vests purchased at uniform store) may be worn; Holy Rosary logo red sweatshirts purchased through the Lands’ End Uniform Store may also be worn as can the cadet red zip jackets. Eighth graders may wear Holy Rosary logo navy or Holy Rosary logo grey sweatshirts purchased through Lands’ End Uniform Store. On perfect uniform days, students must wear proper uniform sweaters, sweatshirts or vests as defined in the policy. All school Mass days are perfect uniform days.
  3. In K-7th, red knit, polo style shirts with a collar purchased through Lands’ End Uniform Store or Dennis Uniform may be worn on non-perfect uniform days.
  4. Gator gear may be worn to school each Friday, except on perfect uniform days, in place of regular uniform sweatshirts or sweaters. Nicknames written on the back of Gator gear must be appropriate.
  5.  Red polar fleece vest with HRS logo purchased from the uniform store may be worn instead of uniform sweaters, sweatshirts or vests. Students may not wear any other type of fleece vests, coats, or jackets in the classrooms. Red polar fleece vests with HRS logo can be worn on perfect uniform days.
  6. Pants must be dark navy corduroy or cotton twill (ankle length, no contrast stitching or brads). No navy jeans or sweatpants are allowed. 8thgraders may also wear khaki pants. No sagging, oversized, cropped or tight pants may be worn. Pants with extra pockets, such as cargo or painters pants, may not be worn to school. Pants must have zippers, not buttons.
  7. Navy shorts (or khaki for 8thgraders) can be worn to school year round. All shorts must be navy blue cotton twill. Shorts may not be shorter than 6 inches above the top of the kneecap and cannot be sagging.
  8.  Girls (Gr. K-4th) may wear Macbeth plaid jumpers or skorts; (Gr. 5th-6th) may wear Macbeth plaid jumpers, skirts or skorts, and (Gr. 7th-8th) may wear navy skirts or skorts. All jumpers/skirts/skorts must be purchased from the uniform store, may not be shorter than 3”above kneecap and may not be rolled at the waist.
  9.  Socks for boys and socks or tights for girls must be worn. Socks/tights must be mostly solid colors—white, black, gray, red or navy—and can be knee-high or ankle length and must match. Lands’ End approved uniform leggings may be worn in navy or black under jumpers or skirts.

Out Of State Travel

If your child is traveling out of state before the end of the school year, contact the office as soon as possible. Teachers are working as quickly as they can, but it does take some time to pull together materials for students. Also, if your child will not be in person at the end of the school year, please contact their teacher to make arrangements to return school materials.


Before/After School Care

As we continue planning for the fall, it will help us to know when families are in need of care.  Please complete this form if you would like to utilize care at HRS next year.  We will reach out to families who complete this form in the near future.

Field Day-Friday, May28

There are11 really fun activities this year and you probably have most of the equipment you will need already at home. The following are a few items you may not have at home that you may want to pick up before field day: Oreos (or cookies of similar size), water balloons, a few regular balloons and a can of whip cream. I hope you get out and have fun with your kids on field day and please email me your videos and pictures of all the fun!


Room Parent Recruitment

Be a room parent for the 2021-2022 school year! If you enjoy planning and attending classroom parties, parent nights out, and spoiling the teachers with birthday gifts, then this job is for you! Room parents fill such an important role in each class and help take a little weight off our teacher’s shoulders. This time spent also goes towards your family commitment hours. Please return any library books that your child has borrowed to the school.

Stamps Collected For Shelby H

Any collected stamps for the Sisters of The Holy Cross project may be dropped off into the envelope at the front door of the school.  The envelope will be at school 5/31 – 6/3.  8th grader, Shelby H., will sort them and donate them to the charity managed by Sisters of The Holy Cross.  Thank you for supporting this service project.

Thanks to our generous community, donors and sponsors the HRS Auction grossed over $240,000. The Fund An Item benefitting our amazing teachers and school staff raised $87,000, with matching funds still coming in. Our community also came together to assist in jumpstarting a free and reduced lunch program for Holy Family Bilingual School by raising $16,175THANK YOU HRS!!!

The Holy Rosary Peer Ministry program is a leadership and service opportunity for all high school students who have received their sacraments of Baptism, Communion, and Confirmation. Stage Struck in-person summer Dance Camp (Dance All Day!)

August 2–13, 2021
Ages: 8–16 (grouped by age & dance level)
IN-PERSON: Admiral Church in West Seattle
Learn or improve your Hip-Hop, Broadway Jazz, and Latin dance styles, moves, and techniques. In this camp, you will get a chance to work with three different professional dance choreographers/teachers —all of whom have amazing backgrounds in their respective dance styles — in a supportive environment while spending time with peers who share your love of dance. The camp will culminate with a presentation of all three dance styles! We will group students by age and dance level in small socially-distanced groups that they will remain with throughout the day. Two fifteen-minute and hour-long lunch breaks outside distanced with the whole camp. (30 students max – three groups of 10 each) Teachers and students will be masked.

Little Free Pantries

Our family has used some of this time amid the stay at home order, building Little Free Pantries. The idea, modeled somewhat on the Little Free Library concept, is simple: The pantries are filled by people in the community, and those in need are encouraged to come by and take what they can use. We’ve had one in our yard for years and it’s not only introduced us to neighbors to whom we may have never otherwise met but has helped many who are food insecure.  Food insecurity hits many in our neighborhoods, most of whom are housed and with the aftermath of COVID19, the numbers are quickly increasing.  These little boxes are not intended to replace the work of food banks but a way to support a neighbor or who may be in need of a meal. We have a few Little Free Pantries remaining which need a good home. Helping The Hungry In This Time Of Need

Catholic Community Services (CCS) has been hard at work, trying to care for many people experiencing homelessness who have no place to go. In particular, there is a great need at the day center they operate in Federal Way. They welcome up to 75 people a day, many who come for both lunch and dinner. CCS is reaching out to local parishes and schools for support. They would prefer donations of hot casseroles, although cold sandwiches are also appreciated.
