Family Communication 5/20/21

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Holy Rosary Families,
This week has been filled with joy and excitement as we move closer to the end of this month.  We see the glimmer of summer excitement in the eyes of our students (and maybe a little bit in the eyes of their parents as well???).
We celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation with our 7th grade students this past Monday and Wednesday.  This special Sacramental Mass, celebrated by Bishop Mueggenborg, is one of the pivotal moments in the faith life of our young adults.  I’m confident the Holy Spirit will work through these incredible young adults and guide them as they continue to learn and grow. Please hold them in your prayers!
This coming weekend we begin the big send-off of our 8th graders who will officially graduate on June 3rd.  It is bittersweet, and this year has certainly been one filled with twists and turns.  I am proud of all of our students, but especially proud of the ways our eighth graders were the leaders in this school, through a host of challenges.  Like many things due to COVID, many of the special eighth grade events have been adjusted, changed or rescheduled, and the students have handled this with grace and perseverance. I am confident in the places they will go as they continue to grow.   Please hold these special young adults in your prayers as well, and I encourage you to join the live streamed Baccalaureate Mass this Sunday at 3:00 pm. It can be accessed through the Holy Rosary Parish site.In Christ,
Anna

PASTOR’S MESSAGE

This week began a number of transitions, as our 8th graders celebrated their Marian dance with the school community and had their retreat and began the various graduation celebration, and as our 7th graders gathered together for Mass as well and begin to look ahead to when they will soon be the new 8th graders!  Transitions are a part of life – it is only a question of how we celebrate, and where we are ultimately going.  Hopefully it is always with and to and for the Lord, in all of those endeavors.
We are no longer taking advance registrations for Sunday Mass – simply come to the 5PM Vigil, or 8:30AM and 10:30AM Sunday Masses.  Is there really anywhere else more important to be as the Lord gathers His children together, comes to us, and gives us the gift of the Eucharist?  It is at the heart of what it means to be a Christian, as the many parts of the one body gather in a real and tangible way for our good and the good of all His holy Church.  See you at Mass!
In Christ,
Fr. Oakland

UPCOMING DATES

Yearbooks Have Arrived!

Yearbooks have arrived and will be distributed in the coming weeks if you ordered in the fall. If you didn’t order then don’t miss out! Email Mrs. Bentler (kbentler@holyrosaryws.org) or Mr. Barker (jbarker@holyrosaryws.org) to get on the waiting list. Include how many you want, the names of your children and their homeroom teacher. We have a limited supply and once they are gone, they are gone! Yearbooks are $30 and will be taken from your FACTS account.
We are extremely proud of our yearbook program at Holy Rosary. It’s one of the few K-8 school yearbooks designed by 7th and 8th graders, who are skilled in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. A yearbook is not only a memory book, but a record and history book, a reference book, and a public relations book; as well as an educational experience for everyone involved. This year’s yearbook was extra challenging as it was done completely remotely but we are excited for everyone to see it! Thank you for supporting our yearbook program.

Little Free Pantries

Our family has used some of this time amid the stay at home order, building Little Free Pantries. The idea, modeled somewhat on the Little Free Library concept, is simple: The pantries are filled by people in the community, and those in need are encouraged to come by and take what they can use. We’ve had one in our yard for years and it’s not only introduced us to neighbors to whom we may have never otherwise met but has helped many who are food insecure.  Food insecurity hits many in our neighborhoods, most of whom are housed and with the aftermath of COVID19, the numbers are quickly increasing.  These little boxes are not intended to replace the work of food banks but a way to support a neighbor or who may be in need of a meal. We have a few Little Free Pantries remaining which need a good home. They need sealing or painting before they are installed but do come with a mounting post.  If you need support installing we are happy to help here too.  If you’d like to place one in your yard please email me at mkharmon2@gmail.com. Thanks! Molly Harmon and Dave Wilton

Helping The Hungry In This Time Of Need

Catholic Community Services (CCS) has been hard at work, trying to care for many people experiencing homelessness who have no place to go. In particular, there is a great need at the day center they operate in Federal Way. They welcome up to 75 people a day, many who come for both lunch and dinner. CCS is reaching out to local parishes and schools for support. They would prefer donations of hot casseroles, although cold sandwiches are also appreciated. Meals can be brought on Tuesday mornings to St. James Cathedral, which will handle delivery. If interested, email/text/call Patrick Barredo (pbarredo@stjames-cathedral.org | 206-619-2879).
