Dear Holy Rosary Families,
I hope you had a wonderful spring break and that your family was able to spend some good time resting and rejuvenating. We are now moving swiftly towards the end of this school year, it’s hard to believe we’re nearly in May!
I wanted to give you a hiring update, as we’ve been fortunate to hire a number of wonderful people to join our school community next year.
We have hired Danielle Kolding to teach Kindergarten next year. Danielle has been teaching kindergarten at OLG for the past two years and we are excited to have her join us to fill the vacancy in KB.
We have hired a veteran teacher, Cathy Woods, to teach second grade filling the vacancy in 2A. Cathy joins us most recently teaching 5th grade at Sacred Heart. School in Bellevue.
We have hired an OLG parishioner and local West Seattle resident, Megan Choitz, to fill our counseling vacancy.
HRS parent and former Sundance Teacher, Dawn Holmes, will join us as a regular instructional aid in the school, primarily supporting Kindergarten.
We welcome a PACE Teacher (from the University of Portland’s Alliance for Catholic Education Program), Julia Beck, to teach music.
Finally, Mrs. Benson (4B) has made the difficult decision to leave us and go to graduate school. We will miss her tremendously! We welcome our student teacher from this year, Kate Tyler, who will join us to teach 4th grade next year in 4B.
More to come as we continue our work this spring to prepare for next year, but we are well on our way to a strong start in the fall! We are excited for the upcoming auction and the chance to celebrate together. There are many opportunities to still get volunteer hours at this event and help is still needed! See the development section in this eFC for more information. I’m excited to see you there, it’s sure to be a wonderful event!
As children work on their goals and plans, it is inevitable for them to experience challenges and perhaps disappointment. Remember that failure is an important and valuable part of learning. Keep reading…

School Calendar For 2022/23
The calendar for next year is on the school website. Over the summer there will be a few updates so check back before the start of the school year. You can also look at the Google calendar, which is updated regularly.
Immunization Requirements for 2022/23
Per the State Department of Health, all required vaccinations must be up-to-date by the first day of school. If a student is missing any of the required vaccinations, they will not be able to start school until those doses have been administered. There is no longer a thirty day grace period. The only accepted exemption is medical. You can access your child’s state immunization records at My IR Mobile. If you have any questions, please contact Kristin Bentler in the school office.
Masking Update/Changes in Mass
We continue to ask our students to have a mask available, in case they find themselves in a situation where distancing is challenging or if they need to work closely with someone. Thank you for making sure your child has a mask in their backpack. Number of new COVID cases in the school this week (as of Thursday am) = 7

Talent Show Spirit Day
Every year, the leadership elective chooses a free dress theme day for the talent show. This year our theme is “Welcome to the Jungle!” Students will be able to come to school on Friday, May 20th, decked out in any jungle gear. This could include animal prints, safari type outfit (khaki clothes, hat, boots, and binoculars), tropical shirts, jungle animal ears, etc.). Get creative or keep it simple! We just want to see your spirit!
Scholastic Book Fair
We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. Hosted by our staff, this event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries and further their love of reading. As always, all purchases benefit our school.
After missing out on many beloved traditions, our spring Book Fair will be a familiar, welcome, and safe event for our students. Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from May 31 through June 6, 2022 at Holy Rosary Library.
Our Book Fair offers eWallet, a safe and secure alternative to cash. Simply create a free account to add funds and/or invite family and friends to contribute so your child can select their own books. Any unused funds can be spent at The Scholastic Store Online or to fund a future eWallet. This will be accessible on May 16 though the book fair homepage. Stay tuned for more information.
If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school. More information to come!
We’re excited to celebrate our love of books together at the Book Fair. We look forward to seeing your child there!

Girls Rock Math
Girls Rock Math (GRM) is a non-profit offering STEAM summer camps. Our mission is to provide thought-provoking, creative experiences in math, empowering girls to develop confidence in their skills, and a life-long interest in mathematics.
Intern-Counselors are a very important part of our GRM program – they wear a staff shirt and name badge. They attend Staff Meetings with our Counselors-in-Training (CITs), teachers, and Site Director. Intern-Counselors work with teachers to ensure campers are having an enriching summer experience. Throughout the week, they work with mentors to guide them in leading, collaborating, and planning activities for campers. They reflect on their experience with other Intern-Counselors as well as their college-aged mentors. Reflection coupled with hands-on experience builds great leadership skills all while having fun and earning service hours. (One week of camp plus training is approximately 40 hours of community service.)
Here are some other things Intern-Counselors do at camp:
- Sing, play games and do outdoor activities with campers
- Assist the teacher as needed
- Ensure campers are safe
- Work with younger campers on games, projects and problems
- Be responsible, reliable, and punctual
- Have fun during recess and lunch
- Follow camp rules
If you know of female-identifying students who would be interested in being a part of this summer’s Intern-Counselor program, please pass along our website:
