Family Communication 12/6/18

Dear Holy Rosary Families,

We’re in the first week of Advent, and we’re working hard with students to prepare to celebrate the Nativity of our Lord at Christmas. I thought it would be helpful to share with you a few resources you could use yourself and with your families during this Advent Season.

  • Dynamic Catholic– sign up for short daily video reflections that are sent directly to your email (or watch them online)- a wonderful way to pause for a few quiet moments of reflection.
  • Catholic Relief Services– Daily Advent calendar offering short reflections
  • USCCB– Daily Advent Calendar with readings, reflections, and ideas families can engage in this Advent Season

These are just a few of the many resources out there! Stop by the office and pick up a blue prayer book, filled with daily Advent reflections as well.

May the peace of Christ fill you all this Advent season,

  • December 16 – Tree Lot closes
  • December 18 – Preschool Christmas program

Coding With Kids Winter Registration

GAME DEVELOPMENT – GRADES 3-5 – This course introduces kids to computer programming through the fun and excitement of building video games. Working in Scratch, a drag-and-drop programming tool, students will create everything from animations to multilevel games. Beginner students will learn the core concepts of programming a game, such as loops, conditionals, and variables. Intermediate students will level-up to more complex concepts, like nested conditionals and functions with parameters. Projects are updated each session, so returning students will have new challenges to work through and advance their creativity and knowledge to the next level.

The course is offered on Thursdays from 3:10-4:10 and runs January 10, 17, 24, 31, February 7, 14, 21, 28, March 7, and 14. This will be the only Coding With Kids class offered in winter.

The 10-week session is $245 and will be charged to your FACTS account. To register, email with your phone number, child/s name, and homeroom.

Visit Coding with Kids website here. Questions? Email Mr. Barker at or Coding with Kids at

Coffee & Donuts

Holy Rosary Parish is in need of volunteers for this important ministry of hospitality! The commitment is once or twice a month, and we are specifically looking of people to volunteer for the 8:30 and 10:30 Sunday Masses and individuals or families who might be willing to take the lead on a given Sunday. The specific sign up times are 8:15 to 10:30 and 10:30 to 12:45. Not only is this a wonderful way to contribute to our time together as a community, but your hours will count towards school general volunteer hours. Click here for more information and to sign up.

Saint Of The Week – St. John The Baptist

Every week we highlight a particular saint. This week we celebrate St. John the Baptist. St. John was a cousin to Jesus, born six months before Christmas. His whole life was devoted to preparing the way for Jesus, so that the people of Judea would be ready to receive the Christ. He challenged everyone from beggars to kings to reform their lives. King Herod murdered him because St. John pointed out that Herod’s marriage to his brother’s ex-wife was illicit. We celebrate his birth on June 24, and his martyrdom on August 29.
