Family Communication 1/13/22

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Holy Rosary Families,
We are nearly two weeks back from break. Time is flying!
This coming Monday we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Dr. King was a unifying voice in our country, with a message grounded in Christ’s love.  He fought for peace, justice, and equality in a struggling world.  His voice was a call to action to address racial and economic injustice.  He was and still is a model for us all.
As we approach Monday and a day without school, let us consider how we can be an instrument of peace in our world today. Though we continue to face many challenges in the world, we must not lose sight of all that is inherently good as well.   I challenge each of us to use this Monday as a day of service to do something to honor Dr. King’s legacy and to better our world.
“Let us keep moving… with the faith that what we are doing is right, and with the even greater faith that God is with us in the struggle.”  Dr. Martin Luther King Junior
In Christ,
Anna

NOTES & REMINDERS

Parents Club

We had a wonderful Parents Club Meeting last night!  For those who were unable to join us, the recording is available here and will be for two weeks.  Our wonderful counselor provides a presentation on supporting kids with anxiety from the start until minute 20.  Anna Horton then  does three brief presentations:  Minutes 20-32:  COVID Updates      Minutes 32-45:  Strategic Planning Updates      Minute 45 on:  Tuition Planning

Zoom Instruction

As a reminder, Zoom instruction is primarily available for students in COVID quarantine or isolation or for those who are sick for 3 days or more due to our strict sick policy. Please stay in touch with your child’s homeroom teacher if your child needs to be gone from school so we can figure out the best way to address the absence.  Generally it will take at least a day to prepare materials and homeroom teachers will notify you when they are available for pick up.  Thank you for your patience and understanding with this.

Mask Guidance

Many of you have asked about current mask guidance for schools.  During a call with Public Health today, we were directed to this resource as a guide when deciding which mask is best for your child.  Public health is not issuing any changed mask requirements at this time, other than reiterating the importance of a well-fitting mask at all times and to use the best mask you have available.  As a reminder, we have child-sized surgical masks available in our office and are happy to provide them for anyone who needs them.

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found will be in front of the school Friday, January 14th after school. Please come by and look for any of your child’s missing items.

Wild West Spirit Day

The Friday of CSW (February 4th), we will have a free dress spirit day.  The theme is Wild West!  Kids can wear jeans/denim, boots, bandanas, cowboy/girl hats, flannel, prairie type look, etc.  No fake weapons allowed.  We look forward to a fun-filled day!

Sports Forms

If your child’s sports team requires a form signed by the school office, please fill out the entire form including the school name, address… We will return them to your child within 48 hours.

COVID Cases

If ANYONE in your household test positive for COVID 19, please contact the school office immediately. Likewise if your student comes in contact with anyone who is currently positive for COVID 19, contact the school office immediately. You’re efforts help us to keep our school open for in-person learning.

Inclement Weather Information

In case of a need to close school or have a late start due to the weather, we will notify families as early as possible.  Keep an eye on the West Seattle Blog, Facebook, and on our website. We will also send an email to all families notifying you of any closures or late starts.  If we start late, there will be no AM BASE, and if we close due to snow, there will be no BASE care on campus during the closure.

Honor Band Auditions

A most blessed 2022 to all! Band members in grades 6-8:  Please note that Honor Band Auditions have been changed to a single night, January 20thfrom 4:00 – 7:00p.m./Kennedy Catholic Music Room. Contact Miss McKamey for any questions:mckameyf@kennedyhs.org

Livestream Mass Information

Our school Masses and Liturgies are live streamed so that families and parishioners can participate from home and so students not able to attend in person may participate from within the school building.  It is possible, due to the nature of the livestream, that student images may be present momentarily in the livestream.   The live stream of the Mass ends before students receive Holy Communion.  Questions regarding this, please contact Anna Horton.

ACTION ITEMS

January Is National Blood Donor Month

We have 15 donations so far, which is great! Thanks to those who have gone already and to those who have already made appointments! The goal I set was 30 but more is better. Blood supplies are critically low right now because of the omicron outbreak, icy roads, etc.  There are many available appointments in the next 3 days in the area with available donation times.  Hospitals are currently having to ration supplies, which is pretty scary – we only have 1/2 day supply on the shelves at any given moment. This is the longest, most severe shortage we have had in many years. All blood types are needed, but in particular O positive and O negative.

To participate: Go to the Bloodworks Northwest donor site here and sign up at ANY location in the Seattle area. When you arrive, tell them you are donating for Holy Rosary’s campaign – our code is HRS. You can save a life!

Used Navy & Gray Sweatshirts

Used navy and heather gray eighth grade sweatshirts needed for this year’s (and future year’s) auction quilt.  I’ve got a design plan in mind, but need more navy (could be the gator sweatshirts) and gray (8th grade) shirts to make it happen.  If you clean out your closet this Christmas break, please send them into school and I’ll pick them up in the office.  Thank you, Denise Davis

HRS Social Media

Calling all HRS familes! We want to put a spotlight on all the amazing things going on in our community. Did your kid accomplish something awesome? Do you have some cool pictures from extracurricular activities? Updates from HRS alumni? Or anything else fun to share that is HRS related? Please send it to us at socialmedia@holyrosaryws.org so we can feature you on our social media channels! Visit http://holyrosaryws.org/social-media/ for more info about submissions. Children need to be masked and following COVID protocols per the Archdiocese.

Volunteer/Parent Vaccination Information

Per Governor Jay Inslee’s directive, all volunteers working in proximity to students must be vaccinated. In accordance with this, please fill out the attached form and include a copy of your Covid-19 vaccination card. If we do not receive a vaccination card from you, you will not be able to participate as a volunteer where students are present. If you have any questions, please contact Kristin Bentler.

Student Vaccination Information (K-8th grade)

On the recommendation of Public Health, and in order to support us in making decisions regarding programming, we are seeking information on the percentage of eligible students (K-8) who are vaccinated. Individual student information will be kept confidential. The aggregate data will help us with programming decisions and mitigation efforts.
Please fill out the attached survey. If we do not receive a response from you, your child will be counted in the category of unvaccinated. Decisions around our programming and activities will be based on the percentages of vaccinated students. If you have any questions, please contact Kristin Bentler.

EVENTS & FUNDRAISING

Auction

Time to drop your Auction donations off at school!  Volunteers will be out front and in the alley to collect items next Thursday. If this date does not work for you, then please drop your donation during school office hours (8am-4pm).  All donations must be marked with your family name.

Grandparents & Special Friends Lunch

We will definitely be celebrating Grandparents & Special Friends.  Stay tuned for a video to pass along during Catholic Schools Week.

Good Society Monthly Night Out

Next Tuesday is HRS night at Good Society! Grab a pint and a bite at The Good Society every 3rd Tuesday of the month, 25% above nightly net back to HRS. Social time, great beer and fundraising for HRS…it’s a WIN-WIN!

ADMISSIONS

Re-Enrollment

Next week we will be the start our official re-enrollment period. We will send out the link to re-enroll your student(s) for the 2022-23 school year. This will be a multi-step process for all families. The Archdiocese has asked all schools to switch to a new application, enrollment and tuition payment software called School Admin/Finalsite. This year you will be asked to input a new payment method.  This does mean that for a short period of time two payment systems will be in effect.

Step by step instructions will be sent via email once re-enrollment is ready to launch.

Tuition rates will be sent out prior to or in conjunction with re-enrollment. Families MUST be accurate with their FACTS payments to re-enroll. Please contact Anna Horton with any questions regarding past due payments.
