Family Communication 03/12/20

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Holy Rosary Families,

I know these days are challenging and uncertain and we will do our best to keep you informed as things change.  On Monday, we will begin online and at-home learning options for kids. This will look different for different grade levels.  Look for specific directions to come out from staff on Monday.

Additionally, on Sunday, I will email families with tips for a successful online learning experience.  Please know that we simply do not have all of the answers at this point in time, but will make all efforts to keep you informed as information changes/becomes available.  If you were not able to make it to school today and need to pick up materials, I will be in the building tomorrow as well.  You may also contact me directly to arrange an additional pick up time.

Please remember that all activities are cancelled at this time- this includes, but is not limited to dance, CYO, sacramental preparation, RCIA,  Parents Club, and Mass.

In these coming days, let us continue to turn towards Christ for care and comfort.

In Christ,

Anna

PASTOR’S MESSAGE

I know that for many of you today is a challenging day.  So was yesterday, and these weeks gone by.  Know that during this time of social distancing to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, with schools closed, all public Masses being cancelled, and events and programs postponed, it is important now more than ever that we work harder to maintain the bonds of unity and love as we can.  Know that the staff and I are still here for you, and that the church remains open as a place of prayer.  Stay tuned for more information about a livestreamed Mass this weekend.  Please let us know if there is anything that we can do for you.  For more information, I would invite you to read my letter that was sent out last night if you haven’t had a chance to do so yet.

In Christ,
Fr. Oakland

Please know that I am thinking of your children, I will miss them, and am here for support should you need it.

Please send me an email to coordinate: sborne@holyrosaryws.org

ACTION ITEMS

No Lunches Of Love This Week

Every year, as part of our Lenten Outreach, Holy Rosary School has provided lunches to the men at St. Martin de Porres shelter. Students are asked to help pack and bring a lunch along with an additional item on designated Fridays during Lent.

These lunches can be kept cold, so perishable food is fine.

**If you are interested in driving a few students to deliver the lunches one Friday in Lent, please contact Kristin Bentler in the school office.

Please note the collection dates below. It is most helpful if the additional items are kept separate from the lunches.

Fri. April 3 – Lunches + additional Items:

– Last name A-M: disposable razors and travel size shaving cream

– Last name N-Z: travel size toothbrush and toothpaste

An incredible opportunity for music students to participate in an inclusive, rigorous, and fun summer camp experience.  Our focus is on improving each camper’s skills as a musician and performer in an inspiring environment. Now in its tenth year, LSMC is an overnight camp where students participate in small and large ensembles and have individualized instruction on their primary instrument by highly qualified instructors.  In addition, the camp experience is unmatched in the Northwest with all of the unique adventures that Lake Samish has to offer, including water and nature activities. With an excellent lineup of music staffers, we are excited to welcome students who are ready to learn.  This camp is aimed at students who will be starting their second year of study on their instrument and entering 6th through 12th grade. PARISH NEWS

Lenten Mission

Mark your calendars for our Lenten Mission with Fr. Bartholomew Hutcherson, OP on the theme of “Metanoia: Ongoing Conversion”. Fr. Bartholomew is a Dominican Friar and priest of the Province of the Holy Name of Jesus in the Western USA. Ordained in 1997, he has spent most of his priesthood in university and parish ministry. Now, as an Itinerant Preacher, he uses story-telling, teaching, retreats, and pilgrimages to share the Gospel with others. His retreats and missions are rooted deeply in his love for the Word of God and a deeply Catholic understanding of Sacred Scripture. When he is not on the road, Fr. Bartholomew teaches Homiletics at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology in Berkeley.

  • March 21-22: Fr. Bartholomew will preach all weekend Masses
  • March 23-26: Morning Mission session follows morning Mass, with confessions following the Mission session
  • March 23-26: Evening Mission sessions preceded at 5:30pm with Adoration and confessions; Mission sessions begin at 6:30pm
Opportunities for Adults

We offer several ways to celebrate and grow closer to the risen Christ:

  • Formed – Formed is like Amazon Prime for Catholic content! Find videos, ebooks, audiobooks, and whole study programs at formed.org. If you don’t have an account yet, click “Sign Up” and then click “I belong to a Parish or Organization”; you can then find Holy Rosary Seattle and register for free. This Lent, we recommend two programs in particular: https://watch.formed.org/into-the-desert or https://watch.formed.org/a-lent-to-remember
  • Inquiry – Do family or friends ask you about Christianity or your Catholic faith at this time of year? Invite them to Inquiry: an open-ended discussion of life, the universe, and everything from a Catholic point of view! All are welcome and no topic is off limits! This is also the starting point for anyone interested in becoming Catholic. We meet twice a month in the Parish Office, and our next meeting will be Tuesday, March 31. Our topic will be “Why is Jesus’s Crucifixion so important?”

For more information, or if you have any suggestions, please contact Robert King (206-937-1488 x203 or evangelization@holyrosaryseattle.org).

Saint of the Week

Every week, we highlight a particular saint. This week, we celebrate St. Patrick. Little is known for certain about St. Patrick, except that he was born in Britain in the fifth century, and taken to Ireland as a slave. He escaped, became a priest, and returned to Ireland to become the island’s first Bishop. He has since become a patron, not only of Ireland and Irish people, but also of those impacted by human trafficking, and of reconciliation with enemies. While donning the green this year, we can also follow his example by listening to those who oppose us, and by speaking Christ’s love to them in a way that genuinely answers the cry of their hearts. His feast is March 17.
