Fundraisers at Holy Rosary School
Our goal is 100% family participation in ALL fundraising events. This is so important because when applying for grants a question frequently asked is percent of participation in giving, both fundraising events and annual giving. Higher percentage rates create a more favorable perception and alerts the granting committee that we’ve exhausted our internal resources and are looking for external funding.
Thank you for you all do and will do for HRS! If you have any event questions, please contact Beth Martin at bmartin@HolyRosaryWS.org or visit the GIVING tab at HolyRosaryWS.org.
MAGAZINE DRIVE (September – October 10)
As school starts the Magazine Drive will simultaneously kick-off, with an opening assembly September 6th. Our goal once again is $125,000 gross sales. Check the eFc or magazine flyer for details on how to set up an account and sell or renew magazines. We will once again be 100% online.
The easiest way to sell magazines is to get renewals. The original subscription didn’t need to be sold through HRS, but a renewal will go towards our fundraising. We ask that all families sell/renew at least 1 magazine. Prizes start at 5 sales with a competition for the Top Seller!
There are minimal volunteer opportunities available during the Magazine Drive, but we will need chaperones for the Family Fun Center reward trip in November. This field trip is for students that sell over 25 or families that sell over 40 magazines. You may obtain hours by assisting your child in setting up an account and emailing friends and family.
WESTFEST (September 20 & 21, HRS parking lot & gym)
The Carnival of Community is a great September event for the whole family! There are rides, games, food, bingo and musical entertainment. WestFest has been a joint Parish/School venture for the past 30 years. Let’s show the Greater West Seattle community an outstanding time and educate them on all Holy Rosary School has to offer.
A multitude of volunteer shifts are available for this event. I especially encourage new parents to sign up for a shift and get to know other HRS parents. Check the eFc for opportunities.
ANNUAL FUND (Throughout the school year, with an emphasis in the fall.)
Contributions to the Holy Rosary School Annual Fund directly support the greatest needs at our school by helping us bridge the gap between tuition charged and the actual cost to educate each student.
The Holy Rosary Annual Fund runs on a fiscal calendar and will be applied from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020. ALL families need to complete a pledge form at http://holyrosaryws.org/annual-fund-pledge-form.
No amount is too small, please participate! Please help us achieve 100% participation from all of our school families!
TREE LOT (November 29– December 15)
The day after Thanksgiving the TREE LOT opens to sell trees, wreaths and garland to the West Seattle community. Inaddition to raising over $100,000 for HRS, this fundraiser donates a portion of all sales to three local charities: Salvation Army Hickman House, West Seattle Food Bank and West Seattle Helpline.
This is a great way to get volunteer hours and meet other HRS families. A sign up will be emailed to all families as well as posted in the weekly eFc letter in November.
GRANDPARENTS & SPECIAL FRIENDS LUNCH (January 29) The Wednesday of Catholic Schools Week we celebrate Grandparents and Special Friends. Entertainment and lunch are provided and guests are taken on a school tour. It is a very special day and one you want to get on your parents/friends calendars.
Minimal volunteer support is needed this day, but a sign up will be available in the eFc and via email.
AUCTION (March 14, Brockey Center, South Seattle College)
Our largest fundraiser of the year is the annual Auction. Last year we raised over $300,000, including 40k for a few new SMART boards. Each family is committed to procuring/donating a minimum of $175 in auction items or cash so the committee may build fantastic packages to be bid upon.
The auction has an Online, Live, Silent and Fund An Item. During the Online Auction unique items such as teacher books personalized to your child and buybacks (special art projects specific to each grade) are available in addition to the typical donations. The Live Auction has fabulous trips, experiences and the class projects (always a hit). During the Fund An Item, cash donations are accepted for a pre-determined item the school is in need of that year.
This is a HUGE volunteer driven event. Please watch the efc for opportunities.
GOLF TOURNAMENT (May, West Seattle Golf Course)
Holy Rosary annually hosts a Golf Tournament to benefit the Fr. Mallahan Endowment Fund. The Endowment provides scholarships for HRS students.
Space is limited, so sign up early. Registration and Sponsorship opportunities at golf.holyrosaryws.org.
Passive Fundraisers (Year Round) A few to note:
1. Amazon.com – sign up for the SMILE program, so a % of sales go to HRS.
2. Box Tops – Cut, save and turn into the main office.
3. Matching Funds: A multitude of companies match money you donate to HRS. Please check with your HR Department.
4. Scrip – Check the scrip page on the HRS web site for details on how to support the school while shopping for everyday items. HolyRosaryWS.org/Scrip
